The Essential Summer Top

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

We’ve already discussed the Essential Summer Skirt, and now it’s time to add another item to your summer wardrobe wishlist. Just like the skirt, the Essential Summer Top is simple, easy to throw on and (best of all for those of us with perpetual overdrafts) cheap.

Primark Woven Pocket Tee, £8 (image via PR Shots)

This soft, loose tee comes in a variety of shades – I’ve spotted mint green, peach, red, blue and ivory as well as the tawny colour above. I love the cute folded over sleeves and the rounded hem.

I chose the peach version and sized up (this is a 14) for extra drape-age. I threw it on with my favourite jeans and a cardigan, and with a little artful tucking-in and some heavy duty jewels, it looks far more expensive than £8. Another piece that I’ll wear time and time again.

How would you wear the Essential Summer Top?

PS – I’ve started a tumblelog. It’s pretty unrelated to Little Bird and is more or less just an outlet for all the stuff currently taking up space in my brain. If you’d like to take a look, it’s called Oh I Love That. (click)

Perfect! Easy to wear, can be styled in loads of different ways, and best of all it’s a bargain! I love it.

Totally agree, I own this in the rust colour as well as red and mint and I love it. It looks equally good thrown over denim cut-offs or paired with chinos. I’ll definitely be buying them in every colour!

I’m in love with this top. I’ve got the mint green version and got it a size up too. It looks so much better a little looser. I’ve been wearing mine with alsorts. High waisted jeans, maxi skirt, cut off denims, you name it!

Ooh that’s cute. It’d have to have slightly longer sleeves for me though – I have to cover up my bingo wings!

I’m pretty sure I’ve tried this one but it really didn’t suit me! Which is a shame because I actually really like it!

I bought this very top a few days ago. I’m going to tuck it into my navy pegleg trousers and team it with brown gladiators. 🙂 Or my denim shorts for when it gets hotter… 🙂 x

I wish my primark wasn’t so tiny and jumble sale esque! I’d love it in mint green with some high waisted denim shorts

Hi Ellie and Reverie,

I haven’t washed it yet (it’s sitting in the laundry basket right now!) so couldn’t tell you how it washes, but the fabric is actually really nice – soft and sheer but not too see-through, and not at all shiny.

I’ll report back on the wash! 🙂

I have this in the exact colour you’ve posted above! I do love it to death BUT it doesn’t wash great- i washed it on a cool wash and it seems to have shrunk a little, it creases really badly too 🙁 but it is lovely! x

Ooh this top looks lovely, will definitely have to take a trip to Primark soon! I was thinking to myself ‘this would look gorgeous in a coral/peach colour’ and then I scrolled down and saw your outfit. Excellent choice haha!

I bought the red one on Saturday although it is more orangey-red. I love it, the colour looks fab with denim (had to drag my jeans out!) Thanks for posting about it!

Thanks for blogging about this. I’ve been looking for a top just like it and although I scoured Primark recently I obviously didn’t look hard enough. It looks so comfy and is such a bargain to boot! 🙂
