Switching Your Makeup for the Seasons

Posted in Beauty.

Autumn is my favourite season for many reasons – golden leaves, chilly evenings that require a roaring fire, no more gradual tanning, chunky knits, no need for strapless bras… I could go on and on.

One thing I particularly love about autumn, however – and you’ll have to just deal with the complete and utter vanity of this next statement – is full coverage makeup. Yes!

I’ve never been able to achieve the soft, dewy look that’s so popular during summer. I love concealer and powder and lipstick – all things that can look heavy and harsh on warm, bright days… not to mention end up halfway down your face under the glare of the sun. So autumn, with its darker skies and crisp temperatures, is perfect for a full face of slap. Applied carefully, of course.

I’m wearing: Benefit Porefessional Primer | EstΓ©e Lauder Double Wear Foundation in 02 | Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque | Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Light | Rimmel Hide the Blemish in Ivory | Mac Mineralize Skin Finish Powder | Topshop Cream Blush in Neon Rose | Black kohl liner | Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow in Pistol | Benefit They’re Real Mascara | Benefit Brow Pencil in Medium | Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick in 01

This is my typical everyday makeup look during the colder months. I swap my lighter summer foundation (this year I loved YSL’s Touche Eclait Foundation) for my beloved Double Wear – I’ve been using it for years and nothing beats it for full coverage and wear. I also build up my eye makeup – I love kohl liner because it’s so easy to swipe and smudge. Finally, I swap summer’s bright pink lips for deeper red shades – the Kate Moss for Rimmel lipsticks are amazing and I love the matte finishes.

A few slight tweaks to my daily routine mean my makeup is suited to the season – darker shades, heavier eyes and fuller coverage look great when worn with woolly winter coats and wrap-around scarves. I also tend to go for darker hair at this time of year – naturally I’m a very light blonde, but I love being a (pretend) brunette!

Do you swap your makeup for the seasons? Which products do you save for autumn/winter?

Your make-up is lovely and i’m digging the ruby red lips! I tend to agree with you in all you say – Autumn is the best for everything! Homemade Soups n casseroles for tea, layering up your clothes, snoods/scarves and all the autumnal colours, the make-up and dark nail polish’s. Think I must be biased though as i was an Autumn/winter baby lol! πŸ˜€

I tried Double Wear for the first time yesterday – I was matched and got a sample as possible makeup for my wedding – its amazing!! I’ve had it on all day today and my face is still immaculate. Is the Bobbi Brown Primer a good base for it as I find Double wear does cling to my pores?/

would love to know x I agree with your choice of lipstick too the matte range is amazing

Hi Debs,

So glad you’re a Double Wear fan! It really is fab. I actually use a Benefit primer (Bobbi Brown concealer, sorry if that was confusing!) – the Porefessional primer is amazing. Creates a smooth, even base for foundation and stops it sinking into pores. I’d definitely recommend it!

Thank you so much. Sorry my mistake on brand, off to visit Benefit website now. Will you be wearing Double Wear on your wedding day?

Very possibly, Debs! I’m having my makeup done by a professional but will definitely be asking for Double Wear πŸ™‚

The lipstick looks amazing on you. I love reaching for my more dramatic lipsticks in autumn as they tend to look at bit OTT during the summer. Also love not having to constantly re-powder my oily skin now that it’s not hot and humid! x

Love that bright lipstick on you Jen.
I tend to go darker for Winter, heavier eye make up and I love using Revlon Lip Stain in Crush for a darker lip.

I’ve never really been one to wear lipstick before, but this summer I started to come out of my comfort zone a bit and try some out and now I can’t wait to start wearing darker plums and reds this winter. Also, on the topic, your lipstick looks absolutely flawless! xx

I love your look and berry-bright lipstick! I don’t really change my make-up depending on the season. It depends on my mood and occasion rather than anything else. Sometimes I change foundation if my skin gets a bit of tan, but that’s probably the only thing…

Autumn is my favourite season too, I love the clothes and make up! That Kate Moss lipstick is gorgeous, definitely one for the wishlist.

My co worker used to work on the make up counters at Debenhams and she said ALL the girls working there used to wear the double wear foundation!
