Chambray, Converse and Clear Skies

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

This unseasonably warm weather has thrown the people of Britain into a couture conundrum. Today I saw two girls waiting for a bus – one wearing a fur-lined parka (?!!) and the other denim hotpants. 20 degrees in March? We are SO not prepared!

Primark chambray dress, H&M long sleeve stripe tee, vintage beaded belt via charity shop, wooden bangle via charity shop, Cambridge Satchel Company bag, Converse sneakers c/o Sarenza

Luckily my weather-based optimism has served me well and after unpacking my summer wardrobe this weekend, I’ve had the joy of wearing some of my faves over the last few days. This chambray dress was a Primark purchase just a few weeks ago – I love the lightweight fabric, cute collar and twirly skirt. I’d been waiting for a suitably sunny day to make its debut, and today was most definitely the right one!

I teamed my dress with sneakers that will be known from here on as The Happiest Shoes In The World. I’ve been wearing Converse since my 16-year-old emo days (with skinny jeans and Paul Frank t-shirts – anyone else?) and love them, but often struggle to find them big enough – the women’s range seems to stop at a 7 which is just a touch too tight. These beauties are actually a men’s size 7 and fit like a dream – if you’re a big foot like me, I’d really recommend checking for unisex styles before cramming your crippled toes into a too-small shoe. Men’s sizes come up just that little bit bigger and can be cute too – even the pink Converse sneakers come in men’s sizes!

Happy Wednesday everyone – it’s time to stop reading this post (maybe leave me a comment first), get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Have a great evening!

I love love love that dress! And those shoes are like sunshine, haha 🙂 I just visited Paris, and they kept telling us how cold it was going to be and how we wouldn’t be able to handle it and would need big parkas, and then we got there and were sweating. luckily I being the girly girl I am, I brought skirts and could live off of those. Lovely outfit!

This is such an amazing post, your Cambridge Satchel is so amazing, and those converse are officialy The Happiest Converse (if Not Shoe) in the World! I love the dress as well, I think this is such a good outfit for the weather at the mo, no practically naked, but not dressed up like an eskimo either!

Yas I love Converse! (as my blog kinda shows ;)) The yellow ones are awesome, I got bright blue ones to call my Spring Shoes. Never noticed the difference between mens and womens actually, good tip! 🙂

Really loving your dress / top underneath idea.
Personally haven’t been brave enough to embrace full-bare leg as of yet – maxi skirts have been a good and safe option during these irritatingly warm/mild-but-not-quite-summer days!

You look great Jen, such a nice idea to pop a Breton under chambray. I whacked the Converse out this week too and was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t feel the need to wear skinny jeans and questionable hair with them 😛 I love that Converse are nostalgic and timeless at the same time! Hope you’re enjoying the sun! xx

That dress is lovely! And I’m still in tights – slightly sheerer than usual though, which is my concession to the sun.

They are! Can’t believe I’ve been wearing Converse for all these years without realising the joy of the men’s range 🙂

I love that dress! I have it, but being a shorty, it’s a tiny bit too long on me 🙁 Love the converse and satchel coordination. I’m more of a vans girl myself.
Lovely.

I still buy a pair of white converse every year- they’re so comfortable and they go with almost everything. Your yellow ones are brilliant. x

I love the matching satchel and Cons, I hope you wear them together throughout the summer! I wore Paul Frank T-shirts with skinny jeans and Vans, ha. My favourite was Julius wearing glittery braces.

You know what I was saying about my summer uniform of denim dresses and stripey tee-shirts?! Expect to see an almost identical outfit to this posted several times over the course of the next few months!

You look gorgeous Jen 🙂 I wore my converse yesterday, they are so comfy and I am most definitely going to get more this year 😛 I’m gonna brave the colourful side of me and go for red high tops! Xxx

I love this look! I’d seen a similar denimn dress also from Primark (but with different buttons) which I really liked, but was dubious about buying as I don’t like the tops of my arms which would be on show. Seeing you pair yours with the striped tee under-neath has just made me want it all over again! Hope you’re enjoying the gorgeous sunshine 🙂

Thanks Lou! I’m not a big fan of my upper arms either. I love long sleeved tees for layering! 🙂

hiya,

This may sound like a lame question, but what kind of socks do you wear with your converse (if you do in fact wear socks). I’m struggling to find socks that are small enough, so they don’t poke out the top.

Hello! In these photos I’m not wearing socks at all and I find with this pair I don’t need them. But I have a black pair which are a tiny bit too small so rub if I wear them without socks. With these I wear plain white trainer socks… they do peek over the top a little bit but I’ve never found a sock that doesn’t!

Hope that helps a bit 🙂

Thanks for the response Jen 🙂 I think somewhere, someone sells a very low cut sock, maybe not low enough for converse, but I’m sure they are out there. My quest for this sock continues.. btw, love your blog.

Try looking online overseas. There’s this really great North American brand called Lululemon and they make yoga/dance/sports wear, and I have a pair of socks from there that sit nicely in my vans, which I’m sure would sit just as nicely in converse. At $14USD they’re a bit expensive, but I’ve only got one pair, two would be plenty.

Here’s a link if you’re interested!

Ahh I brought this dress but it was so so short on me. Not good for the people of Essex so I had to take it back 🙁

It’s a little bit short on me too, Sophie… hoping I can get away with it but it really is for very hot days only!

This is such a gorgeous outfit, I really love the colour combination of yellow and light blue. The weather has been delicious. I love taking my old beach towel outside, settling on some grass and reading the day away 🙂

I am so pleased that this Primark dress is only a few weeks old. You show it off well & I really hope that it’s still in stores! What a timeless classic. I also have banana-yellow Converse, but mine are high-tops & I really wish they were low.
