City Summer Dressing

I absolutely love dressing for summer in the city. I don’t have that relaxed, beach-babe thing down – my boobs are far too unruly for triangle bikinis and after 28 years, I still haven’t mastered tousled hair. I prefer a more structured look and as it’s generally not acceptable to walk around a city in swimwear, City Summer Dressing is my favourite.

For me, dressing for a summer in the city is all about a flash of leg. I love floaty dresses with higher hemlines that I can smarten up with ankle boots or leather flats. I rarely wear sandals during the week as city pavements are FILTHY. And also, I haven’t quite got round to a pedicure yet…

This dress is an old buy from Cos but one I adore regardless of season. It works just as well with tights in winter as it does with tanned limbs in summer, and it’s the absolute BEST for disguising a carb-heavy lunch (damn you, Wasabi Chicken Katsu Salad).

Rob and I snapped these photos at the Corn Exchange in Leeds. My studio is a 2 minute walk from this beautiful building and yet I rarely visit – shame on me. It’s a pretty spot for eating lunch in the sun so I’ve officially moved it to the top of my ‘go here more often’ list.

Doesn’t everything just look so much better when the sun shines?

You have summer in the city dressing down to a fine art, love it! Sadly summer in Glasgow isn’t always so… summery, so I rarely get the chance to properly practise my summer dressing. Hopefully that rumoured heatwave will actually appear this year so I can give it a shot! I have a similar-ish dress from Topshop that would be perfect.. x
