Dare to Bare? The Return of the Crop Top

Posted in Daily Outfits.

Warning – you are about to see a belly on the blog…

Crop tops remind me of school discos and holidays to Disneyland Paris. I wore them (in my infinite style wisdom) age 12 with leggings and baseball caps but have resolutely avoided them ever since.

Unfortunately for me and my pot belly, the crop is a key shape for SS11 and all manner of minuscule versions have appeared on the high street. Some look small enough to belong in a 2 year old’s wardrobe, but some are surprisingly wearable, especially if you cheat. And that’s where the high waisted jeans come in.

I think I can just about cope with a flash of flesh. But what about you – will you dare to bare for the return of the crop?

I have a few in my wardrobe waiting to make an appearance if the weather warms up but I hadn’t really thought about ways to wear them. I like the idea of teaming them with high waisted though, be it skirt, jeans or shorts. It seems rather less, well errr… fleshy. Thanks for the tip xx

Ha! Some may have a pot belly. I have a super-sized-cauldron belly.

Is it too naff to have a crop top over a cami? Even then I wouldn’t go there.

The jeans are great btw.

I love how you’ve interpreted the look! I own one crop top (I didn’t realise it was short when I bought it) and I tuck it into my high-waisted jeans! I can’t bring myself to wear it untucked, too much tummy flab for that! x

I think you’ve certainly made it very very wearable. I wore my first crop top of the year the other day and teamed it with high waisted shorts! I love a good cheat. Like yourself, I also used to wear crop tops. I even owned a Spice Girls fluro pink two piece. This is perhaps why I’m not a fashion/style blogger.

I love this look, especially the cardigan. It looks great! I’m sick of seeing crop tops and leggings, this is a refreshing change.

Two children, one caesarean section, being close to 40, large chest and an Apple shaped figure means its a no for me.

If I was your age with your figure then I would!

Short tops look so much better with high waisted shorts/jeans/shirts. All the ill-advised crop tops + leggings I’ve seen about have started me wondering, is it still muffin top if it’s at the front?

I was thinking the same thing today! I just bought a pair of high waisted wide-legged trousers and I think a crop top would look good with them…but I’m a bit scared to show off my mid-drift! Last time I wore a crop top, I was about 12 years old! To dare or not to dare?

Hmmm I’m not a fan of the crop I’m afraid. Probs because I have large boobs meaning I tend to look like I’ve squeezed myself into a childs tee. Although I do own a cropped tee, I wear it layered avoiding getting my tum out, that’s only for holidays and tanned me. 🙂
You however have got the perfect balance, love the jeans with it, relaxed but with a hint of flesh.
And your hair is looking a beaut!!

Oh Jen, please don’t hate me for saying this but I am most definitely not a fan of cropped tops – I have horrific flashbacks to my youth! I think this is about the best possible way to style them but even so, I’m still not that keen. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with your figure and the peek of belly is cute but there’s something about the proportion that I just can’t like. I think it’s perhaps that the top is a bit too boxy?

I used to wear them at a child as well, but quickly got over it. I think, if worn well (like you have), it can look really stylish. Wearing them with high waisted jeans is a perfect combination.

Won’t be wearing the tiny versions, but I don’t mind the a little flash every now and then.
I cheat on nights out with a high waisted skirt though, love that cheat!

So unfortunately don’t have the balls to wear crop tops… always think they look amazing on everyone that does, but i have the fear myself! Can so imagine the look at Glasto…

I’ve bought a couple for Spring and tend to wear them with high waisted jeans or trousers too. I find them really difficult to style though as they come in all manner of shapes and fits. H&M have some gorgeous basic ones at the moment for less than a tenner. I got a navy blue one and its lovely!

RIght, how exactly do you do it that you look good in a crop top? I always need to wear them with like colour-matching top underneath because i just doesn´t feel comfortable about my belly having a peek out…you, however, totally rock it. Envy, big style!

I love your jeans. I’ve always wanted a pair of high waisted jeans but I can never find any that suit me.
