The end of summer always trails along like a dachshund puppy on a long walk. I’ve been ready to dig out the 120 deniers since July and have even tried to will autumn into existence by wearing a huge poncho cardigan in 20 degree heat… clearly to no avail.

So as summer soldiers on, I’m looking for ways to wear my new winter wardrobe without triggering a bout of heatstroke. This pretty printed skirt has been waiting for its first outing for a while and although I  was imagining berry-coloured tights and a leather jacket when I bought it, I think it looks just as good with bare legs, ankle boots and a crisp t-shirt. If, like me, you just CANNOT WAIT to wear your new season pieces, here are a few more tips to help with dressing for the in between…

  • Mix cosy colours with white for a fresh look
  • Wear ankle boots or brogues with bare legs instead of tights
  • Balance heavy fabrics like cord and leather with breezy, sheer materials
  • Add autumn accessories to summer outfits – a felt hat, leather satchel or pair of ankle socks
  • Try an autumnal makeup look – rich red lips, dusky brown eyes or plum nails
Are you ready to pack away your maxi dresses and start the next season, or will you be clinging on to your sandals when there’s frost on the ground? Share your tips for in-between-season dressing below!

I cannot wait until autumn, I definitely prefer it over summer. I love your sunglasses, I’ve been trying to find a lovely pair for a while but it’s nearly the end of summer now (yay!)

I do love autumn, especially being able to don lovely thick scarves and leather boots.

That skirt is beautiful, I love the button detailing!

Oh definitely, I have been wearing in between bits for all of August as the weather has been so up and down! (plus I bought a gorgeous lightweight elbow padded jumper from Zara which I HAD to wear!
I always find that as long as you have a bit of ankle out (maybe roll up your skinnes) or maybe sandals or a peeptoe then even if your outfit is a bit off-season then you can be ok for all weathers! x

I’m itching for it to be autumn already! I seem to be obsessed with berry coloured clothes and accessories, and all manner of other things that are just not summer suitable.

Roll on colder weather!

I’m really looking forward to getting back into boots and knits. I don’t enjoy dressing for summer as I do winter, so I’m totally with you on this one. Come ooooon already Autumn!

I really love that skirt – you’re right, it would look so good with berry tights! I find myself eyeing up my wardrobe, trying to decide how I’ll style it in the winter. I LOVE a sunny day, I do, but I so much prefer Autumnal styling. A pair of black tights hides so many sins, haha!

Ohh I love this look Jen! Definitely with you with the whole pairing cosy things with white! Instant refresher!
I will most definitely pair a bear leg with ankle boots in my transition to AW but I do love Winter, so I’m quite looking forward to living in tights and skirts again.

The inbetween seasons are the best! They enable us to continue our love of summer fashions by simply adding chunky knits, layers and colourful tights. Its the cheapest season going!

I love the skirt, the colours are so autumnal.
I’m definitely a “clinging on to summer” type but so as to avoid looking silly I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect pair of ankle boots or shoe boots to wear with bare legs and summer dresses. I’m sick of getting wet feet when wearing my sandals! x

Ahh this time of year drives me nuts! I love Autumn/Winter and cannot wait to bust out that season’s wardrobe. Those are some great tips for making the dying days of summer work wardrobe wise – something I always struggle with.

Gorgeous print on that skirt.
I’ve been buying and putting away winter bits for ages. Latest is a leather jacket from ebay, bring on the rain, cold and snow. 🙂

Oops, I’m actually the opposite. Summer is what I live for, and I feel we havn’t had enough sunny days for me to wear to capacity all my different vest top/waisted skirt/gladiator sandal options! Saying that, Autumn dressing can be just as fun. I am loving this skirt.
