Ladies Day at Aintree with Matalan

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

This time last week, Emma, Sara and I were standing at the gates of Aintree racecourse, excitedly waiting for Ladies Day to begin.

See? Totally excited!

We were there as guests of Matalan, who were hunting for Aintree’s most stylish lady for their Style Contest and showcasing their SS11 collections in an amazing catwalk show. I’m a long-time fan of Matalan so was delighted to see so many must-have pieces strutting down the runway… and even more delighted when the models started dancing!

I particularly loved this white shirt and shorts outfit. Perfect for summer in the city!

Emma, Sara and I were persuaded to enter the Style Contest and nervously took to the catwalk to parade for the judges, including Look magazine style editor Zoe Aird and Mirror fashion editor Amber Morales.

I was representin’ the Great British High Street (as always) in my H&M dress, ASOS belt and necklace and (after much deliberation) orange patent peeptoes from Next.

The day was curated by a very Alan Partridge-esque Alex Carter (whom I love and adore, precisely for his Alan Partridge-ness), looking very sharp in a Matalan suit…

The Benefit Beauty Bus was on hand for makeovers and touch ups – a must in the blazing sunshine, as even Estee Lauder Double Wear started to slide.

An utterly fantastic day was only improved by the outfits on display. Peacock feathers, hot pink leather, thigh-high splits and plant pot handbags were all outdone by this amazing (and delicious) get up…

We think she was sponsored by Krispy Kreme.

Many (too many, if my nap on the train home was anything to go by) Mojitos later and the sun started to set on Ladies Day. Stunning Lystra Adams won the Style Contest dressed in head-to-to Viv Westwood, I kicked off my orange patent peeptoes in favour of the flip flops from my goody bag and ate fast food straight from the box. My so-called glamorous life!

Oh I’ve been looking forward to this post! You all look gorgeous and I think you made an excellent choice with the shoes.

Do you read Penny Dreadful Vintage? She’s just done a couple of great Aintree round up posts.

What a fantastic day for you! I love the fact you wore all high street, it just proves that you can look amazing without spending a fortune.

I have a huge Matalan about half a mile from my house. I love it there.

Love the pictures! I have this dress too! Found it quite hard to style and had to make some adjustments. I did it with navy belt & nude shoes – it’s on my blog if you’re interested. I love what you chose, the orange shoes xo.
