Rob and I were at a bit of a loose end this weekend, but rather than doing something we always do (wandering around York, sitting in our local coffee shop, watching films and going to Ikea are among our favourite activities) we decided to discover somewhere new.
Despite only being an hour from Leeds – the place I’ve lived for the past 10 years – I’d never visited Hebden Bridge before. Which was an error, as this place is super lovely.
With a canal running right through the middle there’s plenty of opportunity to spot brightly-painted narrowboats, feed hungry ducks with scraps of bread and play poosticks over the bridge.
It’s also a great place for shopping, with lots of little independent boutiques, cake-filled cafés and ye old ice creameries. The whole of Yorkshire is mad for the Tour de France (or Le Tour Yorkshire as we’re calling it) and I spotted these cute yellow bikes everywhere.

I kept my outfit really simple and my hair undone, with a bunch of flowers in my hand for good measure. Nice way to spend a sunny Saturday, don’t you think?
We often don’t see places that are right on our doorstep! I’m going to St Andrews for the first time this week and I’ve lived in Scotland for 25 years. Definite slap on the wrist for me. x
I love Hebden. Lucy and the Caterpillar is brilliant!
I live about an hour away too and yet I’ve only been to Hebden about 3 times. It’s Yorkshire’s little secret…
I love Hebden Bridge! Beautiful part of the country that I miss very much. The little yellow bikes are adorable; I’m sad I’ve not been around this month to witness the Tour fever.
Such gorgeous photos! It just looks wonderful and you are looking beautiful xx

Sometimes you need a little reminder of the gems where you live!

Beautiful photos! We love exploring our local area too, it’s a great way to spend a weekend.
Just one point though- those are narrowboats not barges ( barges are much larger cargo carrying vessels usually found on big rivers).

Thanks so much, Amy – I’ve updated my post with your narrowboat knowledge! 🙂
Love these shots, don’t think I’ve ever been to Hebden Bridge either! Makes for a great day in the sunshine

Never been to Hebden Bridge but it looks beautiful, definitely like the kind of place me and my husband would like to visit.
