  • Here I am all dressed up for my first night out since Leo was born. Hazel was in bed, Rob was settling a slightly cranky Leo, I had an early 00s RnB playlist lined up on Spotify and I was out the door. 1 hour and 10 minutes later I was rushing back through it as Leo screamed the house down, totally inconsolable. Great night! We think he was super unsettled because he’d had his first injections the day before, but in that moment he just wanted me and there was nothing else that would do. And that’s ok! I think first time round something like this - the lack of freedom, having another human depend on me so completely, it being on me and only me - would’ve freaked me out. But now I know this is such a short time, a drop in the ocean, a brief snapshot. Right now Leo needs me so ultimately, but it won’t always be like that. People say this a lot and I used to roll my eyes and think ‘nah’, but the newborn phase really does go so fast and in a year or two I’ll look back and miss these snuffly cuddles. So I didn’t really mind abandoning my Chicken Milanese (and my friends - sorry gals) last night. I’ll get chance for another night out. And Leo calmed down as soon as he heard my voice 💕

A Bit about Jen

I’ve been writing things online since the late 90s, when my mum finally gave in to my pleas and installed dial-up on my PC. I signed up for MSN Messenger, opened a Live Journal account, set my desktop background as a funny picture of a cat and never looked back.

  • That babywearing life... it’s so muggy here today so I’ve gone for the super light Solly Wrap. Bonus points - it’s kinder on my dodgy shoulder which takes the brunt of this chunky lad, and it goes with my monochrome outfit 💁🏼‍♀️

  • All ready for a breakfast date with my big girl! This is the first time I’ve spent some proper one-on-one time with Hazel since Leo was born and I’m really looking forward to it - she can hold a semi-decent conversation (well, if you enjoy chatting about Paw Patrol, doing a poo and how much she wants an ice lolly) and is just really excellent company at the moment 🌟
  • When you’re already in the playhouse at 7.30am 👋🐞 Loads of people asked when I put this house on Stories, so here’s the info: the house itself is the TP Alpine Cottage from John Lewis. It comes flat pack but is already painted and weather proofed which was a big bonus for us compared to other versions. The bunting, home sweet home sign and curtains are the official accessories which come in a pack, also from JL. Everything else is IKEA and was styled by @roballison! 🏠 🌸
