Sunday Smile #24 – Rare Fashion giveaway

Posted in Daily Outfits.

Sunday Smile has been on hiatus for a few weeks, but I’m feeling particularly chirpy today so thought it high time to get you grinning again.

A few weeks ago the lovely ladies from Rare got in touch and offered me an item from their new collection. I’ve had the occasional rifle through their rails in Topshop, but have never bought anything from Rare so I was keen to try a piece for myself.

One Shouldered Embellished Dress

I love, love, love the colour of this dress – it reminds me of the clear Mediterranean in the height of summer. There’s something very 40s about the loose, floaty shape with the delicate knotted embellishment, so I styled the dress accordingly…

One Shouldered Embellished Dress, vintage leopard print faux fur cropped jacket via car boot sale, Accessorize peacock feather hair clip, vintage leopard print peep toes via eBay, Links of London Sweetie bracelet

I felt super glamorous in this get up… possibly a little too glamorous, considering my jeans-and-flats tendencies! The colour worked perfectly with leopard print accessories, and a red lip finished it off with a 40s flourish. For a more seasonally-appropriate version, I think I’d slip on some thick black opaques and carry a feathered clutch.

As is often the case, the dress is just a little too short for me. But my loss is your gain, because I’m giving this pretty piece away!

To win the One Shouldered Embellished Dress from Rare in a size 12, just tell me how you’d style it in the comments below. Make sure you leave your email address too! The giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere and will last one week. The winner will be announced on Sunday 24th October.

Please note – the dress is a 12 but is quite loose fitting, so would fit sizes 12-16 easily. If you’d like exact measurements please let me know. Good luck!

That dress is boooootiful! I’d style it with tights (thinking about the lovely cold weather here), for daytime maybe with grey tights with black patterned ones over the top because I like that look, then I have a pair of tan Victorian lace-up boots that might look nice, and a cosy cardigan over the top! For night I’d go with black tights and maybe lace-up black shoeboots, with a leather jacket over the top for warmth, and maybe a belt at the waist…red lippy would also be a must! Gosh I’m rambling now, it’s just really pretty 🙂 xx

With my purple ankle boots, black tights and vintage GAP blazer for daywear. Evening wear – hair up and skyscraper red New Look heels. The dress is beautiful enough to not require a necklace so just teardrop earrings. Love it!

Oh it’s gorgeous Jen! I’d go for a glam party look and hopefully be a vision in sea tones. My green/blue/teal suede Irregular Choice killer heels would look amazing with it, some seamed stockings, possibly a little wrap or vintage fur tippet pinned with a glitzy brooch from my grandma’s collection and some sort of interesting thing in my hair as it’s too long to recreate a proper vintage inspired-do. Perhaps if I was feeling super glamorous, a turban type thing would look amazing.

thats a gorgeous dress..i love it with the little fur coat so sweet…

because i am on the busty side i would have to cinch it in with a very thin silver belt just to give me some shape otherwise id look like pavarotti otherwise..
i think i would put on my tightest skinniest jeans with it and my highest thinest heels i could find..
a vintage style jeweled cuff on my wrist and a snakeskin vintage clutch at my side

I’m not really a size 12, but I like loose fitting things, so I guess I’ll enter! But if you feel it wouldnt fit me that’s fine! The following is whatever is coming into my head so bear with me 😛

I think if I wore a belt with this, it would have to be a very embellished one, as if it’s part of the dress. Or, I would go for a double buckle belt.

Now for the legs… I don’t think I’d go for a solid colour of tights, probably some patterned tights would be better. Even possibly the suspender style tights! So it’s not a solid block all the way up. Maybe a lace tight or a sheer tight with hearts on it.

I think in a weird way, this dress would look good with some flat brown brogues.

Because it’s so floaty, I would go for a sort of cropped blazer so you can see the floatiness underneath. Also I’d probably go for a very dark colour. I think the jacket should end at the waist and nip in there so it creates a nice silhouette.

If I’m looking for an evening jacket, I think a cape would look so cute on top of the dress! Or, I could toughen it up with a leather aviator jacket, most likely a light colour.

To top off I would have my hair in a high topnot with some dark red lipstick.

For accessories, I think I’d so for something simple, (i’m not big on accesories anyway, too lazy). I think I’d go for a small box clutch.

This is the most weird look I think I’ve put together… Anyway, although it’s a weird mix of everything, I hope you see it all in the best light!

I love the colour of that dress, such a pretty vivid blue. I’d style it clinched in at the waist with a silver waist belt, black floral lace tights, silver and black high peep toe heels. For jewellery i’d go for a delicate long chain pendant, perhaps a watch locket, and dangly shell earrings. Oh and a cropped leather jacket to keep out the chill! xXx

That colour looks fab on you, it so flattering.

I would wear this with a light grey belt, pewter colour flats (I have a bad back at the mo!, black opaque tights and my hair bundled loosly on top of my head. I would keep my neck bare of jewellery to show off the embellishment and wear a think vintage silver bangle instead with some similar style small vitnage drop earrings. And given the weather, I would probably throw my cropped leather jacket over the top on the way to my night-out. This dress screams to be showed off!

I won’t enter the giveaway as it’s not my size, but WOW you look gorgeous! I love the color and the Grecian-syle draping. I think it would be too short for me to wear without opaque tights though!

Gorgeous gorgeous dress- you are right a bout the colour, beautiful 🙂
I think I’d rock it up a bit, possibly black tights (depending on time of year & event I’m wearing it for) Little black ankle boots, big hair and a big statment necklace!
Thanks for the giveaway

Ohhh that colour is gorgeous! I’m going to say how i’d style it for being pregnant as its floaty and perfect for it. I’d pair it with thick black opaques, a skinny black belt above the bump and a gorgeous vintage clutch x

You LOOK superglamorous. I really loved how you styled it. I’m particularly fond of the pop of a red lip with that blue pallette.

I also love the colour of this dress but I’m afraid it would be too long on be as I’m a shortie 🙁
But I’ll tell you how i would style it anyway! i would defiantly wear tights as it’s getting cold wearing the heart suspend tights along with black heels, matching it up with either a faux fur jacket sleeveless or a boyfriend cardigan with a waist belt to wear casually <3

I quite like Rare, they have some quirky pieces. This one is very Halston, love it with the leopard jacket. I’d probably go quite simple with it and just add some strappy silver sandals and a chunky bracelete x

I think I would style the dress in 2 different ways…
For daytime I would go for solid black opaque tights with an oversized cardigan and brown brogues. And maybe even my new Topshop coat that makes me feel like a railway child if it was really cold.
On a night out (I think this looks my better one), I would wear it with chunky black wedges as I think the contrast between a floaty dress and chunky shoes looks really cool. Lace tights, maybe with skin coloured ones underneath if it was really cold. Hair up in tousled up do with these leaf shape earrings ive got and I think some bright magenta pink lipstick would clash with the dress in a cool way.

i’d probably throw it together with a skinny belt (i’m leaning towards a dark pewter colour) to cinch it at the waist and a black lightweight cropped jacket (i have a perfect black satin-y one with 3/4 sleeves) and black or pewter heels.

Oh oh oh me please! That looks so beautiful, not what I’d expect from Rare from what I’ve seen before! So my outfit would probably go: dress, belted in, with huuuuuuuuuge black heels and lots of silver chunky rings!

This isn’t an entry (it wouldn’t fit me, boo!), but I want to say that when I looked at the picture of it on the hanger I was pretty nonplussed, but on you, with the little fur jacket and the red lipstick, I love it!

Oooh that really is a seriously gorgeous dress and you look fabulous wearing it. I absolutely love it with the leopard print!

I think I’d wear it with black opaque tights and my grey studded shoe-boots. No need for a necklace with that lovely shoulder detail so maybe just some sparkly stud earrings. And for the to-ing and fro-ing of a night out I’d wear it with my little black tux-style jacket.

Ah you look gorgeous! And that dress is lovely. I would style it with mustard tights, my red sparkly mary jane high heels and a smile. Primary colour power!

WOW this dress is amazing and you have styled it brilliantly! Adore!!

This dress would be perfect, as we’re going into summer here in Aus. I see Grecian style, so I would wear it cinched in at the waist with a thin silver belt and an arm full of silver bangles. These amazing yellow stilettos by Peep Toe (they’re not gladiator but love the color)-
http://www.peeptoeshoes.com.au/item/miss-lulu–fluro-yellow
with the hair in large barrel curls loosely pinned back from the face. Shimmery cheeks and natural glossy lips.

It would be lovely to wear to the spring races. 🙂 x x

What a gorgeous colour the dress is. It would be way too short on me though, so I would style it as a top with jeans and a jacket, and some equally awesome blue heels.

You look absolutely gorgeous, Jen! It seems a crime for you to give it away as it suits you so much.
I’d wear some 60 denier turquoise opaques, turquoise suede shoe boots, a stack of bangles adn some kind of odd vintage hat. xxx

Gorgeous dress! It looks great, to be honest I think you should keep it, but here goes…I’d wear it with my 5 inch ankle boot red glitter heels (think Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz shoes on steroids), my Primarni red rose ring, and my long fur coat.

I love that dress!!I would wear it with fur coat in beige or camel, maybe some acne-like big wedges (I love those) or lace-up ankle boots in camel, which are quite big this fall.
For a casual look I would style it with a simple blazer and not so high ankle boots, maybe even ballerinas but i would add a statement piece such as a cute headband and some unique rings/necklaces.

wow wow wow! amazing dress, the colour is stunning and it really does go so well with leopard print, I’d love to throw my faux fur on top of it with some thick tights for daytime, then for night I’d wear it with my chunky black wedge boots from New Look, sheer tights, loads of vintage silver rings and sliver hoop earings a la Karlas Closet

Gorgeous dress, can’t believe you’re giving it away when it suits you so well!

I’d wear it with heels, or maybe shoe boots with a jacket to keep me warm and toughen it up a bit.

Ooh! It’s so pretty! I love the detail on the shoulder.
I’d style it with a thin black blet, and black pumps. If it was a little cool a pair of opaque tights and maybe a sparkly cropped jacket. Some fake lashes and red lipstick and a little hair embelishment would top if off nicely I think.

The dress looks wonderful on you!! I love the shade and the detail on the shoulder is so pretty 🙂
I’d wear this on a glam night out with the girls or on a date and as the dress is so amazing I’d keep things quite simple. I’d team it with a pair of amazing glittery red heels dorothy style that I own with matching red lipstick and black eyeliner. For the short journey between the car and wherever I was going I’d wear a fur jacket, just as you did 🙂

Ohhhh. that’s just beautiful.
I love that shade of blue and the little bit of bling.
Although, and not trying to get you to NOT give it away – I totally don’t think that it’s too short! In fact its a perfect length! xo

Gorgeous dress! You know the colour reminds me that of Carrie Bradshaw’s in the first SATC movie, you know the one with the lovely sleeves, just after she’s redecorated her apartment.

Anyhow-

I would style it up, with a sequin cardigan and possibly some sort of sequinned headpiece/jewel type thing. I would wear my silver Tiffany jewellery, staple pieces for me.
Footwear wise I would go for a contrasting colour, just to take the focus off all the silver and shimmer. I’m thinking a dark brown rustic colour, definitely heels for this kind of dress and lastly a small and compact clutch, just for carrying the essentials in

I saw a pair of heart print tights somewhere the other day (can’t remember where now!) that would look fab with this.

I also have a fab pair of silver vintage cuban heeled mary jane style shoes and then would invest in a nice antique effect silver cuff bracelet for a bit of bling ♥

Oooh it’s lovely- such a gorgeous colour!
I would wear it with a classic pair of black suede courts with a chunky heel which I love but would not detract from the dress which is so dramatic in itself. I’d pull my hair back with diamante clips for an evening do for a sophisticated look which matches the beautiful strap detail. And as it is rather chilly at the moment I’d also throw on a black jacket- cropped and influenced in shape by the tux.
