Exploring Bath

Even though I’d never been before, visiting Bath felt very familiar. Like Harrogate, York and Edinburgh, Bath has beautiful architecture, loads of greenery and plenty of cute shops to potter around. Rob and I spent a day exploring – here’s what we saw…

I was offered a free stay at Harington’s Hotel – this pretty independent hotel is right in the centre of Bath, so it’s a perfect base for exploring. Our room was bright and airy with beautiful illustrated wallpaper and a view out onto the cobbled streets of Bath. You can see more in my vlog if you’d like a closer look.

We were met by Harington’s concierge Eve who was super helpful – I generally like to do my research and make my own plans when I visit somewhere new, but it’s always nice to have a local expert and Eve was so friendly, suggesting places to visit and even changing our dinner reservations for a later time. It was a really nice service that was much appreciated by these out-of-towners.

When we were all parked up and settled in our room, we headed out into Bath for a wander.

Basically, Bath is really beautiful. It was a glorious day so Rob and I just strolled about in the sun, gazing up at the buildings and repeatedly saying ‘isn’t it like Harrogate!’ to each other.

There’s lots to do in Bath – the Roman Baths, the Abbey, the Fashion Museum… but to be honest, we just wanted to take it easy. So we opted for a bar crawl instead! We nipped in and out of some lovely places including the Canary Gin Bar which was really gorgeous. Again, more of that in the vlog!

We sat in the hot tub until we were suitably prune-like, then headed back to our room to get ready for dinner.

Dinner was at Clayton’s Kitchen and it was amazing. I had scallops to start with followed by steak and chips (I literally always choose steak when it’s on the menu) and an lemon cheesecake for dessert. De-lic-ious.

We rolled home at midnight slightly worse for wear and slept it off ready for breakfast the next day. I love a good hotel breakfast and the buttermilk pancakes at Harington’s were *pinchy fingers emoji*.

After one last look at the scenery, we jumped in the car and drove back up north. Bath, we’ll be back!

An Autumnal Outfit

Posted in Daily Outfits.

Dressing for September/October is hard work. I want to cuddle up in my chunkiest knits and stomp about in my DMs, but the weather’s saying t-shirt and shorts (with added umbrella, obviously). We’re in No Man’s Land, guys. It’s tough out there.

I think I’ve worked it out, though – maxi dresses (*with* sleeves) and ankle boots. Observe…

This is not my ~usual thing~ at all. Generally I reserve maxi dresses for lounging about on foreign beaches, not trudging through the grimy streets of Leeds. But on this particular day, with the sun blazing and the leaves golden, I gave boho a go… ho. (Sorry.)

To dial down the hippy vibes, I teamed the dress with a trusty leather jacket and these beautiful fringed boots from Kurt Geiger. I live in ankle boots through winter and have already worn these loads – the heel is just high enough to add height without the crippling foot pain and I can NOT get enough of those fronds.

Autumn, I bloody love you!

Weekly Vlog #2 – Autumn, Bedroom Tour and a Trip to Bath

Posted in Weekly Vlogs.

So unlike most ‘regular features’ that I’ve promised on this blog, the Weekly Vlog is back! Thank you so much for your super kind comments on the first one – apparently I am at least vaguely interesting, and my Yorkshire accent isn’t as off-putting as I thought!

Vlog #2 includes a walk to the park to collect conkers (really), a little look at my bedroom and a trip to Bath with Rob. Have a watch, subscribe to my channel and let me know what you think in the comments.

Sunsets and S’mores in Wales

Posted in Travel.

21st September marks our wedding anniversary – a date we share with our pals Matt and Lil. We like to celebrate as a group and after our Scottish Cottage trip last year, we decided it was high time for some more outdoor adventures. So we went camping!

We settled on Aberafon campsite in north Wales after seeing some amazing photos from friends who visited in August. It’s about 3 hours’ drive from Leeds, so on a sunny Thursday afternoon we packed the car with enough stuff to survive a 6-month zombie apocalypse (at least) and headed… west, I think?

We arrived at 8pm so pitched the tent (a total success – hooray!) by headlight and enjoyed delicious fajitas in total darkness, but we were up bright and early to do some exploring.

Aberfon campsite sits on a hill above its own private beach – it’s pebble rather than white sands but this is Wales… and it was still breathtakingly beautiful. After a walk up and down the shore and a peek at the goats and llama on-site, we headed out to nearby Caernarfon to look at castles in the rain. A classic British holiday.

On Saturday we drove out to Portmeirion which is 30 minutes away and where Festival No. 6 is held. It’s a really odd place – kind of like Welsh Disneyland – but very pretty, with lots of colourful buildings and gorgeous flowers. We pottered about, had lunch, took the “train” through the forest and then ate massive ice creams.

IMG_1372The evenings were what really made our camping trip special, though. We pitched up on the beach at 6pm and settled in for the night, getting a fire going in the stone pit, lighting the barbecue and watching in awe as the sun slipped into the sea and the sky turned from blue to pink to blazing red. What is it about sunsets that’s just so… glorious?

As darkness descended and the stars came out, we ate braised beans and chargrilled sausages and tried (and failed) to photograph the lights above us. Those nights on the beach were magical – sitting wrapped in a blanket, surrounded by the best people, making s’mores on the fire.

It was the absolute best way to celebrate two years of marriage and a perfect anniversary trip. Take me back!

WEEKLY VLOG #1 – Coronation Street, Camping and Mini Studio Tour

Posted in Weekly Vlogs.

My first vlog! Aaahhh!

I’ve been toying with the idea of vlogging for a while now – in six years of blogging I’ve always avoided video content because I hate the sound of my voice (the Yorkshire accent isn’t known for its style or class), but after watching a few of my faves really rock the ~weekly vlog concept~, I decided to give it a go.

It helped that I had a pretty interesting week – I’m not sure how fun it’d be to watch me sit on the sofa watching Pretty Little Liars, which is what I do most nights. So this might not be an every week weekly vlog but I really enjoyed filming and editing it, and I hope it’ll be at least a semi-regular feature when I do something more than an 8-hour Netflix marathon.

Anyway. I’ll leave it here for you to watch. Be kind… and if you liked it, subscribe to my YouTube channel here!
