Sunday Smile #16

Posted in Home.

I have returned! Yes, dear readers – I survived my first adult-camping-experience-that-wasn’t-a-festival weekend! And can I tell you a secret? Whisper it now – I enjoyed myself. Even when I was woken at 6am by a frog sitting atop my head (really), I was laughing. I walked four miles in my fashion-statement workman boots, I drank lots of cider and I didn’t straighten my hair once. Take a look at our glorious surroundings…

Careful!

No evening photos because we were far too busy drinking/eating/playing games to bother with the cameras.

I’m now back home with a mobile signal (the amount of emails and text messages that came through as we drove out of our little black hole was ridiculous!), Red magazine and the latest catalogue from Cath Kidston and the second half of Dexter season 2 to watch.

My time in the countryside was blissful, but I’ll always be a city girl at heart. What did you get up to this weekend? Were you home or away? Any boot sale bargains to report? Tell all, please!

I never tire of the nautical look. It’s always been a favourite of mine – there’s something effortlessly chic about the pairing of navy and white, maybe with a flash of red thrown in. I got these fab peg leg trews with my code from Gem’s competition (which I won! Happy days!) and I love them. I’m all about the tailored trousers right now.

Apologies for the short, rather un-insightful post today, folks. I’m going camping tomorrow… yes, really. If you follow me on Twitter you might’ve already heard about my ‘extensive’ preparation, including buying two bottles of rosé wine (necessity), painting my nails gold (thanks Models Own) and shopping for dark coloured separates (girl’s gotta look good). Thankfully, my dear friends are expert campers and have told me to bring nothing but myself and my travel hairdryer. Stay tuned for my packing post tomorrow!

Any tips for surviving a weekend in the great outdoors? What should I pack? Is there any point taking my GHDs? And do I really have to leave my new buckle wedge heels at home? *pout*

City Living

Zara khaki trousers, Primark tee, thrifted blazer, TK Maxx sandals, vintage belt, Zara Taylor timepiece necklace

Contrary to my countryside-like photo backdrops, I actually live just 2 miles from a bustling metropolis. My horizon is lined with skyscrapers, I can get sushi at 2am and there’s a Starbucks on every corner. Yep – I’m a city girl.

My current job has taken me away from my beloved city, but my new one will take me right back to its centre. I can’t wait to eat lunch at a pavement café and watch the world go by. I can’t wait to sip cocktails at Happy Hour. And I can’t wait for late night shopping!

Today’s outfit sums up city living perfectly for me. Functional, simple and chic. Neutral colours toughened up with a sharp black blazer and a statement necklace. I’ll be wearing this in my first week for sure!

Are you a city gal or country dweller? Are you more at home with traffic jams and commuter trains or is it all about sweeping fields and winding lanes for you? Let me know!

Aussome Volume party – 60s style!

Posted in Blogging, Daily Outfits.

I’m a little late reporting back on this wonderful event, which took place in Manchester a few weeks ago. If you want to see a photo of me in ridiculously large velcro rollers, you need to read on!

As an official Aussie Angel, I was delighted when the lovely ladies at Aussie invited me to my first event – the Aussome Volume party. The theme was 60s Motown, and what better way to celebrate massive hair than with a wicked beehive!

Here are a few snaps from the night… some of my own and some pinched from Aussie.

I wore my favourite vintage-style silk blouse from Max C (which our stylist Amber absolutely loved), H&M jeans and my thrifted Topshop heels.

My sister-in-law to be Jenn and my bestie Clare were my guests

The party in full swing. Shola Kaye kept us entertained with songs from the 60s and we drank French Martinis, Rasberry Belinis and a rum concoction I can’t quite remember the name of!

Rocking my new ‘do! I LOVED my hair – my fab stylist Amber was great and the style was really easy to achieve. She told me I should seriously consider an undercut with volume on top… we shall see!

I had an absolutely amazing time with the Aussie girls and my fellow Angels, including the lovely Phoebe, who I’ve been wanting to meet for ages. Aussie really did think of everything, and as a Northern blogger who often misses out on London-based events, it was fab to have something just for us. Can’t wait for the next one – more Belinis please!

Topshop jeans and pumps, Missguided top, H&M belt, Zara Taylor cockroach necklace, Raybans

I love this outfit. Really and truly love it. Stripes, check. Boyfriend jeans, check. Sunnies, check. Kooky jewels, check. That’s my outfit formula right now and I’m sticking to it.

When I first wore boyfriend jeans I had a pair from Primark, but I picked up these Topshop Andie jeans in the sale for £20 and returned the Primark pair. They’re so comfortable, they go with everything and I heart them.

I feel good in this outfit. It may not be the most fashion forward get up I’ve ever stepped out in, but it’s working for me.

What are you loving from your wardrobe right now? Got a favourite pair of jeans like me? Maybe some shoes you just can’t get enough of? Confess your obsessions below!
