The Classic Cropped Trouser

Along with four other lovely bloggers, I’ve been working with Boden and Stylist.co.uk to promote some of fashion’s more classic pieces. We were each assigned a wardrobe staple and asked to style our piece up for the spring/summer season – I was given the classic cropped trouser and you can see the other bloggers’ picks here.

These navy Boden trousers* aren’t my usual skinny denims, so I wanted to go for a slightly different look. I teamed them with a loose shirt and colour-pop sweater, finishing off with a clashing clutch and neutral heels for a spring outfit that’s lighter and more suited to the warmer days we should be enjoying in early March. Sadly they’re yet to materialise but I’m hoping I can bust out this look again soon!

Boden and Stylist.co.uk are currently giving away £500 to spend at Boden – a chance to get some style staples in your wardrobe, maybe? All the details are here – let me know if you enter so I can send some luck your way!

How would you wear a classic pair of cropped trousers?

Heads up! I was paid for my work with Boden and Stylist.co.uk. Paid links are highlighted with a *.

How To Wear Leopard Print

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

what to wear with leopard print

I’m a long-time fan of leopard print. Despite their cheap ‘n’ nasty reputation, animal prints have the potential to look so classic – I think they encapsulate that nonchalant, no-fucks-to-give Parisian style perfectly. You just need to know how to wear them.

When I spotted (lol) my homegirl Kristabel wearing this ASOS leopard print coat, I knew it had to be mine. I’ve been looking for a nice, full-length faux fur coat for a while and as this one was just £21 (down from £70!) I wasn’t too fussed about the impending spring weather and the possibility I wouldn’t get to wear it ’til next winter. Not that I needed to worry about THAT – thanks for the snow, Universe.

When it comes to wearing leopard print, there are only three things you need:

– Stripes
– Denim
– Red lipstick

Stick to this formula and you’ll never stray into Bet Lynch territory. Promise. Throw in a good pair of black leather flats and you’re in Off Duty Supermodel mode. This is the coat I’ll chuck over my oh-god-it’s-Monday-and-I’m-late-for-whatever-it-is-I’m-doing outfits.

PS – Yes, I am wearing sunglasses in the snow. It was VERY bright this morning!

Glasses of the Week – Sleek and Stylish

A few weeks ago, an email dropped into my inbox. Most of my incoming mail is met with a sigh and the delete button (unsolicited e-newsletters will be the death of me, I swear), but this particular email made me do a giddy little dance.

It was from Swag & Stare, a new company with a mission to rework the way we buy glasses. If you’ve read this blog for a while you may remember my dalliances with online optics – I’ve tried a few different sites but have never been hugely impressed. Yes, there are plenty of places to buy designer frames… but what about the cheaper, brand-own styles? US sites like BonLook have been getting it right for years, but in the UK there’s a gaping chasm between high-end frames and NHS specs…

So when I clapped eyes on the amazing, vintage-inspired range from Swag & Stare, I was excited. My personal eyewear preference is big, bold and square, but I’d wear almost every pair on this site. From dainty and classic to geek chic, there’s a style to suit everyone and at £95 including lenses they’re affordable, too.

Swag & Stare came to visit me at my studio in Leeds and I choose four pairs of glasses for a special ‘Glasses of the Week’ series. My first pair are ‘Tryst‘ in the honey colourway – much smaller than my usual style but very sleek and stylish. I paired them with khaki and leopard print – I love the colours together and the lighter frames are lovely and subtle.

Do you wear glasses? What style do you go for? Are you a one-frame woman or do you like to chop and change?

In Bed with Blair Waldorf

Last Tuesday I woke up with a mutant head-brain-body ache which quickly progressed into full-blown Female Flu, which everyone knows is quite serious and would leave any ‘I’m fine, I’ll just take some Beechams and sleep on the train’ naysayer bedridden.

So much of last week was spent cosseted in Orla Kiely sheets, eating ice cream and watching Blair Waldorf and friends take Manhattan.

Despite feeling like standing in the shower might actually be the end of me, I still got up and dressed every day. I hate lounging about in my PJs and welcomed the chance to wear my favourite Sick Person Uniform – an oversized knit and leggings. Stylishly soldiering on in the face of flu-based adversity – I know, I’m a modern day Joan of Arc.

When I started to feel a bit better (which coincided with finishing seasons 1 and 2 of Gossip Girl… ain’t nobody got time for season 3) Home Alone Hysteria set in so I staved it off with an impromptu bed-based photo shoot. MUCH easier than lugging my tripod down the street, let me tell you.

I’m wearing a Whistles jumper, Uniqlo denim leggings, Primark socks, one necklace from Whistles and another from Etsy and a Cos ring. My bed is wearing Orla Kiely sheets via TK Maxx, a Scottish Wool blanket also via TK Maxx, Ikea cushion and fairy lights, Next wooden bunting (on the beam) and a silver stag head, which was another TK Maxx find.

What do you wear when you’re feeling under the weather?

Win a Whole New Wardrobe

Posted in Blogging, Fashion.

Despite my fondness for flats and tendency towards comfortable clothing, I must be doing something fashionably correct, as MoneySupermarket.com have chosen me to judge their ‘Passion for Fashion‘ competition. Hooray!

MoneySupermarket.com are looking for stylish folks to create outfits for less than £200, across three categories – Casual, Holiday and Party. I’m taking the (virtual) swivvle chair behind the ‘Casual’ category to oversee all things jeans-and-t-shirt, and I’ll be choosing my favourite off-duty outfit to win £200. My fellow judges Natasha and Olivia will be pulling out their best Simon Cowell impressions to judge the Holiday and Party categories with two more prizes of £200 up for grabs, and then we’re all coming together (like at Bootcamp) to choose an overall winner who’s really wowed us with their style prowess. That fashion maven will win £1,000 to spend on a new SS13 wardrobe. Fun!
Want in?
If you want a slice of this deliciously stylish pie, here’s how to enter:
  • Write a blog post featuring one casual, one beach/holiday AND one party outfit. Remember, each outfit must cost less than £200 and you must include all three in your post to enter.
  • Include a visual representation of each outfit – you could do what I did and spend an enjoyable few hours browsing the internet under the guise of ‘research’, then make a collage of images to showcase each outfit.
  • Include links to the items you’ve used in each outfit, and write a little something about them – maybe an insight into your inspiration? That’s what the designers do, right?
  • Email a link to your entry to
  • When you’re all done, come back here and leave the link to your post in the comments so I can have a look-see and flex my judging muscles.

The prizes

  • There are three £200 cash prizes for the winners of each individual category, as chosen by me, Natasha and Olivia.
  • There’s also one £1,000 cash prize for the overall winner in all three categories – the one person who nailed every look and made us three judges sigh with fashion longing.
Here are a couple of examples, crafted by my own fair hand:

casual1
Quilted Crop Jacket | Stripe Shift Dress | Woven Cut-Out Shoes | Cross Body Bag

I love pink and orange together – I paired this statement jacket and colour-pop bag with a simple shift dress and comfy flats for a stylish spring look.

casual2

Slim Boy Fit Jeans | Tuck Stitch Jumper | Half Disc Collar | Pointed Courts

Nothing says casual like baggy boyfriend jeans – wear them with a neon knit, statement necklace and bright heels (not too high, remember!) for off-duty style any supermodel would be proud of.

Pretty easy, right? Don’t forget, each outfit must come in under £200 and you need to email your post to  passionforfashion@moneysupermarket.com and leave a link in these here comments to enter. So go forth, fashionable friends, and create the casual outfit of my dreams…
Good luck!

Heads up: this is a sponsored post and I’m being paid for my work with Moneysupermarket.com.
