Cashmere, Three Ways

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

I usually shy away from posts about wearing one thing in multiple ways. Usually because once I find a great way to wear something, I stick to it. I’m not particularly adventurous in my sartorial choices and firmly subscribe to the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ theory.

… except when it comes to knitwear. From late September to (let’s be honest) mid-May, knitwear is my homeboy. I wear my collection of sweaters, jumpers and cardigans day in, day out, and pairing those pieces with jeans can get a little repetitive. So when knitwear’s involved, I’m happy to mix it up.

I’ve also developed a bit of a habit for cashmere.

So here’s one beautiful cashmere jumper – sent to me by the lovely folks at Pure Collection – worn in three different ways for three different activities.

morning meeting.

The jumper I chose for this challenge is a gorgeous rose pink – the perfect partner to my tapestry print skirt. With black tights, leather booties and a tonal necklace this smart but sweet outfit worked well for a morning of meetings.

afternoon stroll.

Next up was the afternoon stroll. Rob and I visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park last week and as it was a freezing cold day, I thought I’d put my jumper to the test. With a Uniqlo Heattech tee underneath and a big scarf to bundle up with, I was toasty warm.

date night.

For date night, I decided to give my jumper a tougher edge with leathers, skinny jeans and block heel boots. The soft pink looks lovely against black, and the peep of polka dot collar adds detail. Because the jumper is a ‘boyfriend’ fit (read: loose), it works best with something fitted on the bottom and these Topshop Joni Jeans are just the ticket.

Ta-dah! Cashmere, three ways. I’ve actually worn this jumper many more times that I’ve documented – it’s the perfect throw-on-and-go piece, it keeps me warm and is super soft and snugly. What more can you ask from knitwear?

How would you style this jumper?

In the Countryside

Last week Rob and I were lucky enough to visit the Lake District for a stay at the Gilpin Hotel (more on that tomorrow). Despite living only two hours away I’ve never been to the Lake District before, and I was completely blown away by the beauty of the landscape.

There’s something so captivating about the country. Cities like New York and Barcelona have stunned me, but nothing takes my breath away like the British countryside. I think that’s because it’s so familiar, yet still so magnificent – no matter how many times I see the sun setting over the Yorkshire Dales or experience the sloping hills of the Pennines, I’m always awed.

For a country wander around the Gilpin grounds, I wore a very pink outfit… I’m really into this ‘tonal’ thing at the moment and seem to dress strictly within one colour group. Luckily I coordinated with the tree, so all was well.

Do you have a favourite UK countryside spot? Recommendations for my next trip in the comments, please!

Wrapped Up

It’s a chilly one today, so I bundled myself up in scarves and Uniqlo Heattech for a few quick snaps in the sun.

I’ve been wearing my Orla Kiely Heattech like a woman possessed – it’s the perfect combination of pretty and practical and looks great teamed with simple separates.

To celebrate the launch of the Orla Kiely Heattech collection, a few weeks ago I took part in a very fun Google+ Hangout with Orla, Carrie from Wish Wish Wish and a host of other Orla-obsessed bloggers. The highlights video is here if you’d like a look…

Such fun! What are you wearing to ward off the cold?

American Prep

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

I go through very distinct ‘stages’ with my sartorial choices. Just like Picasso and his Blue Period or when Kate Moss went all boho in 2002.

Right now I’m in an ‘American Prep’ stage. I’m all about J.Crew, shirts under jumpers and massive, bejewelled earrings. Oh, and a top knot. Of course.

Although I adore J.Crew (who have just opened a two stores in London and currently offer free deliveries and returns in the UK), it is a little pricy. To indulge my American Prep period without breaking the bank, I’ve been picking up pieces from Gap, Uniqlo and even Accessorize – it seems my favourite look is currently hot on the high street, too.

If you’re moving from your 90s teenager period into a similar American Prep style, here’s my failsafe formula for quirky collegiate dressing…

Are you going through a particular fashion phase at the moment?
