I’ve always been a pacifist. A bit bossy, maybe. But never one for violence. I believe in peace on Earth and in wardrobe. And to prove my Mother Teresa-esque love for all things great and stylish, I’m uniting two prints that haven’t always seen eye to eye. Spots and stripes no longer vie for my affection. They are loved equally and at the same time.

Luckily for me, spots and stripes cohabit peacefully in one outfit. Hooray for sartorial pacifism!

Things I love about spring – daffodils, fine knit cardigans, a lesser reliance on central heating, and dresses. No matter the season, I will always, always love a dress with a nipped in waist.

What’s in your spring wardrobe?

PS – Things I don’t love about spring – misleading weather, the temptation of Creme Eggs at every shop checkout, people in beer gardens sunbathing topless, and trying (and failing) to give something up for Lent.

Eclectic Eccentricity SS11

Posted in Fashion.

Eclectic Eccentricity, purveyors of vintage-inspired, so-pretty-it-hurts jewellery, have launched their SS11 lookbook today. And rather than your traditional brochure (paper? pah!) they’ve gone digital and released an animated version for your viewing pleasure. That Blue Tit is my new BFF.

There’s lots going on at Eclectic Eccentricity HQ to celebrate the launch – free gifts with every order, hourly flash sales on the SS11 collection, a Twitter Tournament for your chance to win and some behind the scenes sneak peeks on the EE blog.

I’ll be reviewing a few of my favourite pieces from the collection later this week, and there are prizes to be won too. For now though, I’ll leave you with these stunning illustrations and the gorgeous lookbook.

What’s on your wishlist?

Vintage Shopping – That’s Just The Way it Goes

Vintage Pringle jumper via jumble sale, vintage Levi’s shorts via eBay (and hacked up by me), Next blouse, vintage bag via charity shop, Primark brogues, Stolen Thunder brooch

I went to two jumble sales, a vintage fair and five charity shops and all I brought back was this lousy jumper!

A few Saturdays ago, I decided to hit up all my favourite second hand haunts in search of homeware for my Second Hand Home Challenge. Although I do actually rather love this vintage Pringle jumper, it was a bit disappointing to come away almost empty-handed after a full day of thrifting.

Sometimes that’s just the way it goes, though – one week you’ll walk into a charity shop and think the volunteers laid each piece out just for you, and other times you’ll consider a job lot of tarnished tea spoons, just so you can buy something.

Weekly Write Up

Posted in Daily Outfits.

I’m a little hit and miss with my ‘Weekly’ Write Up posts. Sometimes I’m all over it, snapping shots of places I go and things I see. Other times I wonder if anyone has any real desire to see a photo of my new shoes on top of a suitcase. But, I got nothing else today – so here they are!

In other news, it’s my sister’s 21st birthday tomorrow, so today the family crew got together for food, drinks and laughs. We went to a bizarre and amazing restaurant called Crab & Lobster in Thirsk, near York. It had everything one could ask for from a restaurant – delicious food, chilled white wine, a man called Mutton Chops who played the banjo and an original 1940s diving suit suspended from the ceiling. I’ve never seen a place like it – it was a vintage lover’s dream, full of fur coats, antique cameras and mantle clocks showing a variety of times.

My starter was a goats cheese tart with red onion marmalade and dijon ice cream (delicious).

And my main – garlic roasted lobster with king prawns, scallops and salad (also delicious, although I couldn’t finish it all).

The restaurant sits on stunning, sweeping grounds. I love all the leafy archways – very Secret Garden. I’m wearing a Matalan dress, Primark cardigan and brogues, Dorothy Perkins tights and my Stolen Thunder brooch. I did have a belt on too, but the lobster soon put paid to that.

I’d definitely recommend the Crab & Lobster – it was a bit like going vintage shopping, but with excellent food and a chorus of ‘Happy Birthday To You’ from Mutton Chops. Which equals an excellent day out, obviously.

How was your week?
