London Fashion Week – In My Bag

Posted in Daily Outfits.

*This is a sponsored post.

Because I’m incurably nosey, I love poking around in other people’s bags. Probably not in real life (although don’t leave your stuff unattended when I’m around – sometimes the temptation is too much), but most definitely online. The Fashion Week handbag is a particularly interesting one – do you prepare for every eventuality, from sore feet to torrential rain, or go minimal and stick to the basics? Let’s take a look…

First up, my outfit – I wore Uniqlo jeans, a Next shirt and trench, ASOS necklace, charity shop cocktail ring, years old leather belt and Zara heels (which hurt. A LOT).

My bag is by Mulberry and was kindly sent to me by John Lewis. I love leather handbags but usually go for huge, slouchy affairs filled with a lifetime’s worth of junk. So how did I fare with this teeny tiny version?

I filled this little beauty with my Fashion Week essentials – my iPhone for capturing the shows, some change for lunch, my debit card for emergency glasses of champagne, my Oyster card (in a colour-coordinated wallet – so fashion!) for hot-footing it across London, a Lush lip balm and Topshop’s All About Me lipstick for touch ups. And that’s it! Well, kinda…

My secret shame – a gigantic Gap tote that contains an umbrella, flat shoes (thank GOD), multiple bottles of vitaminwater, schedules, my camera, more makeup, a hair brush, plasters… the list goes on. So not quite the minimalist look I was going for, but I least I’m always prepared.

Do you lug around a massive handbag, or are you the small and dainty type? And tell me – what’s inside?

PS – I’ve been working with John Lewis throughout Fashion Week and tomorrow I’ll be hosting a Q&A session on their Facebook page – if you have a burning question you’ve been dying to ask me, please come over between 12-1pm tomorrow (Weds 22nd) and I’ll answer it for you!

I’m back in Leeds, wearing boyfriend jeans and slippers, after a hectic few days at London Fashion Week. I still have lots of photos and gossip to share, but for now you can take a look at my photo diary of the week on TescoMagazine.com. Enjoy!

London Fashion Week – Leather and a Trilby

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

As Fashion Week trundles on, it’s easy to get sucked into the scene. Somerset House is the perfect stage for weird and wonderful outfits and as I watch the parade of Jeffrey Campbell Litas (in lavender with My Little Pony tails attached!), rainbow-bright eyebrows and full body gimp suits (seriously), I find myself wondering if there’s a formula for getting street style snapped…

Wearing a hat is definitely one way to get yourself noticed, and my cute H&M trilby was papped a few times. Sadly I was missing the black lipstick and patent creepers required to really get the bulbs popping!

Have you seen any amazing street style from the cobbles at Somerset House?

A Few From London Fashion Week

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

This post comes to you from my bed courtesy of the lovely people at Premier Inn. Gem and I are staying in Stratford for London Fashion Week, right on Westfield Stratford City’s doorstep, which is proving rather dangerous. Nando’s, Krispy Kreme and Topshop less than two minutes away? Hide my debit card, please.

Of course, the reason we’re here is for Fashion Week which doesn’t really favour Portugese chicken and definitely turns its nose up at deep fried doughnuts. Here are a few photos from the first two days…

Saturday’s outfit was a Cos dress, Michael Kors leather jacket, Miss Selfridge necklace and ring, Bertie boots and Zara bag.

Front row at Felder Felder… unfortunately Kristabel and I were standing in the photography pit rather than sitting with the celebs, but we did get some excellent photos. I love those gold-heeled shoes!

The highlight of Friday was the stunning ballroom show by Orla Kiely. The Portico Show Room in Somerset House was done out like a vintage tearoom, complete with frilly tablecloths, a live band and beautiful ballroom dancing. I could’ve stayed there all day.

More to come in the next few days. Have you seen any of the London Fashion Week shows? Anything caught your eye?

‘The Remix’, aka ‘Wearing Your Clothes’

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

I’ve always thought fashion has its own language. Like many industries, the fashion world has developed a set of words and phrases that could be completely meaningless to an outsider. Getting dressed becomes ‘making a sartorial choice’, black and white is ‘monochrome’, a dress is an ‘LBD’, and one of my personal favourites – we don’t just wear our clothes each day, but ‘remix’ them.

The Remix is common among fashion blogs (and in fact, I did one myself about a year ago) – remixing your wardrobe involves taking a few items and styling them in a variety of ways. So… wearing them, then?

When I buy something new, I’ll rip the tags off at the first opportunity, put it on and wear it regularly for the next few weeks until the novelty wears off. When I picked this pink jumper from my wardrobe, my only thought was ‘ooohh yes, lovely pink jumper! I’ll wear you again today’. The fact I wore it mere days ago doesn’t bother me, but neither am I trying to prove that it can be worn a multitude of ways – surely we buy all our clothes on the basis that we’ll get more than one wear out of them? So is re-wearing something really a process at all? To me, ‘The Remix’ is just a fancy name for getting dressed every day.

What do you think – are we all masters of The Remix by wearing our clothes more than once or is it just a made-up fashion phrase for something people have been doing every morning for centuries?
