Structure

H&M skirt, Truffle Shuffle tee, Topshop tights, elsiebelle earrings, Primark shoes

And the details…

Firstly apologies for the rubbish photo of my tights. It was early in the morning and the sun wasn’t up!

My first outfit post since the style challenge and still no jeans! Hooray! I’m so pleased – could I have shaken my habit for good? Let’s see, shall we? 🙂

Anyway. Over the weekend I’ve been having a think about my blog and what I want to do with it. I don’t want my beautiful blog to become a dumping group for my tangled, unstructured thoughts. I already know I need to improve the quality of my photos – hopefully a new camera and longer daylight hours will help that! But I also want to make sure the content of my blog is interesting, relevant and well written. So I’ve planned out a loose structure for the day to day of A Little Bird…

Mon-Fri: Wearing my Wardrobe
An outfit post everyday, with detailed photos, fashion chat and style challenges.

Sat: Nesting
Saturdays will be my break from blogging (I’ll be cleaning the house in sweatpants, anyway!).

Sun: Around the House/Tell Me a Story
Sunday posts will be less about fashion, more about my life in general and what I’ve been up to.

What do you think? Is there anything you’d like to see featured on Little Bird?

PS – I’ve been tagged and awarded lots of lovely things over the past few weeks, but am SO rubbish at keeping on top of them! Thank you to EVERYONE who thought my little blog was good enough to mention – I really do appreciate it. 🙂

My elf in shining armour

Mineral Face Primer, Mineral Blusher in Rose, Waterproof Eyeliner Pen in Plum

Mineral Lipsticks in Cheerful Cherry and Nicely Nude

Brushes – Face, Blusher/Bronzer, Eyeshadow, Smudge Sponge, Eyeliner, Concealer

Before I launch into my gushing praise for elf, I’d like to make it really clear that these are just my opinions and experiences. No one sent me free stuff to write this post, and this isn’t a review blog. I’m genuinely thrilled with the products and service from elf and MUST share my thoughts with you all! 🙂

I regularly read some fabulous beauty blogs and have heard many good things about elf (eyes, lips, face). I checked out the website and could not believe how cheap everything was! Seriously, £1.50 for a brush? Are you kidding me? (No, they’re not. It really is that cheap!) I placed an order and sat back with a smug smile after spending only £17.

The next day, snow hit the UK and everyone went crazy. I thought I’d have to wait a while for my order, but it turned up at 9.30am. So far, so impressed.

I started using my brand new goodies the next day. I was so utterly enamoured I had to go back for more. So I did! My favourite products are the Mineral Face Primer (keeps my face in place all day long, which is a first for me!), the Blusher/Bronzer and Eyeshadow brushes and the Nicely Nude lipstick.

I’ll definitely visit elf again… I’m already planning to buy the Mineral Makeup starter kit and a couple of other lipsticks. Do you shop at elf? What products do you recommend?

My Style Challenge – Day 5

Posted in Daily Outfits.

Urban Outfitters shirt, Primark polo neck, H&M skirt, Accessorize tights, Primark brogues, thrifted bangle, vintage belt, Topshop ring

The final day of my style challenge has arrived and I’m sad it’s all over! I’ve really enjoyed reading your comments on each outfit, your words of encouragement and the challenges you’ve set for yourself.

I’ve definitely learnt to live without my jeans – in fact, I haven’t even missed them. I’ve been having way too much fun in fitted skirts, flattering shorts and floaty dresses all week long!

Now, I don’t mean to disappoint you all, but I know I’ll be back on the denim tomorrow. Don’t despair, however! Although I won’t be doing my challenge next week, I’ve got so many outfit ideas and none of them include jeans!

I hope you like my final challenge outfit. Which day was your favourite? And what would you like to see again, reworked to look a little different?

My Style Challenge – Day 4

Posted in Daily Outfits.

Zara dress, Primark polo neck, Gap cardigan, Topshop leggings, Primark socks, Steve Madden boots, thrifted belt, thrifted jacket, thrifted bangle, thrifted ring

I’m so pleased with the amount of thrifted items in this outfit. One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to buy more thrifted and vintage items. Here’s where they all came from…

Dark brown leather plaited belt with brass buckle, £5
I picked this up at a vintage shop in Sheffield called Cow. Possibly the best vintage shop I’ve ever been in – loads of beautiful pieces at such reasonable prices.

Gold bangle, £1
I recently found this bangle hiding at the bottom of my jewellery basket after it went missing for 4 months. I got it from an RSPCA shop in Leeds one Saturday, then went for tea and cake afterwards to celebrate the find!

Black stone cocktail ring, 50p
This was from a very messy, tangled jewellery box rummage at a car boot sale in Leeds. I think it’s actually originally from Primark as it’s very similar to my other cocktail rings from there. Still, I love this ring and wear it often.

Faux fur leopard print swing jacket, £25
This is my first thrifted piece of 2010, if we’re counting eBay as thrifting (which I am!). It was only delivered yesterday and I am utterly thrilled with it – it’s gorgeously soft and very cosy, with a sweet swing shape and 3/4 sleeves. It was a little musty-smelling upon arrival, but plenty of Febreeze later and it’s like new!

Have you found any thrilling thrifted pieces in 2010? Share them with me!

PS – If you’re having a problem viewing my blog in Internet Explorer, please let me know. 🙂

My Style Challenge – Day 3

H&M dress, Primark top, Urban Outfitters cardigan, H&M tights, thrifted belt, Primark brogues, Primark necklace, Primark ring

And the details…

Phew – day three already?! I’m doing pretty well, right? Another day without jeans and I’m finding I don’t even miss wearing them. Hooray!

This morning I decided I really, really wanted to wear this cute little cover up I got from Urban Outfitters. I’m not a regular UO shopper (too expensive!) but I got a gift card for Christmas and wanted to spend it in the sales. I got this beauty for £14.99 down from £35 – very pleased. And a little smug.

Anyway, I really love nude, fleshy tones, but found them quite hard to incorporate into an outfit without my denim fail safe. What’s a girl to do when her fall back jeans are off limits? Well… go for another fall back, so it seems. I’ve worn this black pinafore dress so many times – it was only £19.99 and must’ve paid for itself 20 times over. And I think it worked out pretty well!

What do you think of today’s style challenge outfit?
