My Style Challenge – Day 2

Republic dress, Primark top, Accessorize tights, Steve Madden boots, Primark bangles, vintage belt

I hope you don’t mind my smug smile in these photos. I was just so pleased with how this outfit turned out!

I’m finding my challenge less of a chore and more of a short skirted adventure. It’s so fun to stand in front of my wardrobe and rifle through a menagerie of colours and fabrics, patterns and prints. I’m taking on each day with boundless enthusiasm for undiscovered outfits and possible pairings. I recommend you all take on a style challenge of your own! Go on – I dare you! And please share it with me by leaving a comment. 🙂

PS – How wonderful is my Mr for buying me this dolly dress for my birthday? It’s definitely one of my wardrobe wonders.

My Style Challenge – Day 1

Can you guess what it is yet? A few days ago I announced I’d be trying out a style challenge this week. And here it is!

From the moment I slipped my first pair on (wide flare bootcuts with ‘Native American’ embellishment!), I was a jeans girl through and through. I had about 20 different pairs, all in varying shades of… denim, I guess! I went from major flares to skater girl baggy, classic slim to seriously skinny. I tried every brand I could and for 2 years, I actually worked in a Levi’s store. My love affair with rivets, coin pockets and belt loops had well and truly taken hold.

When I hit 20, I started being a little more adventurous with my clothing, and I get braver and braver every day. But I’m still drawn to denim and rely on my jeans when I just can’t be bothered. That’s something I want to stop doing.

So, for the next 5 days, I’m banning jeans from my wardrobe. I’m sacking off my skinnies, banishing my bootcuts and pushing aside my pull-on-and-go pair. And I’m being more adventurous in the outfits I do choose – I’ve got a week of shorts, skirts and stylish slips.

My challenge kicks off with this monotone marvel. The shorts were a killer sale bargain I picked up at the weekend – £39.99, down to £5 in River Island. I paired them with a simple polo neck and this loose, smock style top from Topshop. I also wore knee length black boots that were way too dirty from the slush to photograph! I really like how this outfit turned out, and I’m excited to show you how I pull off my no jeans challenge for the rest of the week.

Do you think I can do it, or will I be buttoning up by Thursday?

My inquisitive, curious nature means I love having a peek at other people’s houses. When I go to a new place, I could spend hours just poking about, looking at photos, rifling through wardrobes, flicking through books. I’m sure my hosts must think I’m terribly nosy!

These photos were taken in various rooms around the 2 bed flat I share with my Mr. We don’t have much space, so pretty much every surface is crammed with photos and trinkets, memories and reminders. Even though we can’t paint the bland beige walls or change the cold laminate flooring, we can fill our home with things that mean something to us. And surely that’s what’s most important?

I know when we finally buy our own house, we can go as crazy as we like with the decorating. But for now, I’m content with our little flat, filled with things that make us smile.

Trashy, clashy

Topshop cardigan, Gap tee, H&M jeans, Primark legwarmers, Primark brogues, Primark ring, gifted headband
And the details…

I’m sick of wearing boots. I do love and adore my Steve Madden biker boots, but sometimes a girl wants a more delicate shoe. Unfortunately, these brogues are not the greatest in these snowy conditions. I slipped and slid my way from car to office and back again, but at least my feet were dressed to kill!

I’ve always been a little wary of clashing prints – florals with dots? No way! Gingham with tartan? Argh! But I think there’s something really fabulous about nautical stripes with trashy leopard print. I’m being braver with my fashion choices. Hooray!
I’m really hoping the snow goes away soon (although we’re forecast more for the weekend) because I have a special style challenge I want to crack on with. I won’t tell all just yet, but it’s safe to say snowy weather is making it very difficult!
What are you up to this weekend?

Yes, alright then. Snow and I are back on speaking terms. He saw to it that I didn’t have to work today by covering my car and our car park, making it impossible for me to get anywhere! So we’re friends again. The Mr and I had such fun digging his car out so he could get to work!

I should really have taken a picture of myself on my MacBook, as that’s been the the order of the day. I’ve been working from home (which is so much fun, by the way! You can’t dance around to Queens of the Stone Age while making a brew at work, can you?) and gazing out of the window at the beautiful, sunlit scene. It’s so much prettier from behind glass.
Thank you all for your kind and concerned comments on my last post. Myself and my car are fine and hopefully the whole incident will melt away with the snow. What with that and the pheasant on Sunday, I’m thinking maybe an armoured tank would be a better choice of transport? 🙂
