I love jeans. Have you noticed? They’ve been a must-have in my wardrobe for many years, and I’ve been searching for the perfect fit since the start of our romance. I worked for Levi’s when I was younger and learned a lot about denim, but that elusive pair always evaded me.

I like a high waist, faded wash and super skinny ankle. They’ve got to be tight, keep their shape and withstand days of wear… I tend to wear them for long periods of time without washing (is that disgusting?! Oh well).

At the moment I’m loving Topshop’s Kristen High Waist Jeans – they’re perfect for balancing loose tops and chunky knitwear, look great with flats, heels and boots and they’re so comfortable, too. But after months of constant wear, I’m on the look out for a first date with different denims (when I’ve completed my 30 for 30 challenge, of course!). Any recommendations, dear readers?

Do you have a favourite denim brand?

PS – The gorgeous Max C stripy top I’m wearing is a real favourite of mine, and because the folks at Max C are so very generous, they’ve created a special deal just for Little Bird readers! If you spend over £50 on the Max C website you’ll get this top free! And if that wasn’t enough, there’s also 20% off all orders when you use the code 5174570G at the check out. Both offers end on 18th Feb, so be quick.

Banana Warehouse on Piccadilly. I love this place – it’s packed with all manner of weird things, from headless mannequins to a full suit of armour.

The street I can never remember the name of, aka Cath Kidston street!

I grew up just outside York, and so many of my childhood memories involve this beautiful city. I could just walk around all day, taking pictures and gazing up at the buildings. I’m taking part in something pretty cool at the moment – The Now Project from Samsung Wave II. My challenge is to snap images of ‘now’, one of which will be on display at the Wave gallery showing in March. If you want to take part, you can enter your own photographic version of ‘now’ on the Facebook page too. Here’s one of mine, using the vintage filter on the Wave II…

30 for 30 – The Remix Challenge

Posted in Daily Outfits.

On 1st February, I started my 30 for 30 remix challenge. I have a few reasons for taking part – I can no longer close my wardrobe door, my bank account is barren and (most of all) I feel overwhelmed when it comes to choosing an outfit. I have too many things that don’t go together. I spent a good few years shopping with reckless abandon, picking up cheap things on impulse with no thought for how they’d fit into my already-bulging wardrobe.

I’m slowly getting a handle on my bad shopping habits, so I figured 30 for 30 was a great way to test myself. 30 days, 30 pieces, no new purchases. Want to see what I’ve chosen?

On: Friday 4th February
For: A dressed down day at the office

I don’t usually post on a Friday, but today I have two reasons – to show you how well I’m doing at 30 for 30 and to say a huge, heartfelt and sincere thank you.

I got so many comments, tweets and emails about my Company Magazine news and I continue to get amazingly heartfelt messages of support about everything, from my blog, my writing, my figure (!) and my style (again, !) every day. I read and appreciate every single interaction, good and bad (I do like the good ones more though) and I’m grateful for all the opportunities I get through A Little Bird.

I have some really exciting things up my sleeve, including some very cool projects and a total redesign, and I can’t wait to share it all with you guys.

Happy weekend – have fun, be safe and smile. Lots. Oh, and if you’re in the Leeds area, why not pop down to Reet Sweet? It’s a craft fair (but no ordinary one) held at the Corn Exchange from 11am to 4.30pm on Sunday 6th Feb. You might just see me there!

Jen x

Style Revisited

Wearing: Dorothy Perkins shirt, Topshop skirt, Primark brogues, Mango ring
On: Thursday 3rd February
For: Raising eyebrows

When I was 15, all my skirts were this length. Not officially – only after 3 rolls of the waistband. I’d leave the house all demure and studious in my school uniform, then roll up my skirt, pull out my ponytail and line my eyes when I got round the corner. I was never told off my blatant disregard of the no makeup, no skirts-above-the-knee rules either – I think the glasses trick people. You may think I’m an intelligent, sensible young lady but actually I’m a thigh-flashing rebel who’ll eat your son for breakfast (I’m not really. The first impression was correct).

This is the first time I’ve worn a skirt like this since that fashion rebellion 10 years ago. I think I like it – it balances out the loose shirt perfectly and it’s surprisingly comfortable – but I do feel younger in it. And actually, there’s something really nice about that.

Do you ever revisit styles from your past? Anyone rocking a floppy velvet hat or satin waistcoat?
