Black is such a failsafe. Whenever I’m feeling a bit blue, having a fat day or a wardrobe crisis, I go back to black and slip on something dark and moody.

Today was definitely a gloomy Monday. I’m having a tough time at work and need until at least Wednesday to ease myself back in, so black was definitely the way to go. I bought this dress for my Christmas party and have been looking for a way to wear it away from the festivities. Turns out it was a simple as 1 (leggings), 2 (layering tee), 3 (black boots)!
What item of clothing do you turn to when you’re feeling less than fabulous?
PS – Don’t forget to check out my giveaway and The Fashion Diet Sale.

PPS – I inadvertently stole my title from the lovely Sabine, and (as Sabine rightly points out), Amy Winehouse. Ooops.

If you’ve heard about The Fashion Diet, you’ll know I said I’d be selling a few things in order to slim down my wardrobe. First up – my beloved Uggs! 🙁
I got these 2 years ago from Daniel Footwear – they’re 100% authentic and cost £110 new.

I’ve worn them lots, so there are a few marks and creases here and there. But the sheepskin is still incredibly soft and fluffy and there’s still loads of wear left in them. Great with jeans, cute dresses and skirts and perfect for this chilly time of year.
They’re chestnut mini uggs, in UK size 7 (US 10). I’m usually an 8 but these fit me like a glove. I’ll be really sad to let them go but I wear them less now I have goodness knows how many other pairs of boots.
I’m asking for £40 ONO for these boots, +£5 postage for those in the UK. For international buyers, I’ll work out the postage price depending on where you are in the world.
If you’d like to buy these boots via Paypal, please email me (littlebirdfashion@googlemail.com). It’s first come, first served, so be quick!
All proceeds from these boots go straight to the House Fund. Thank you all for your lovely comments on my last post – I feel so inspired! Normal posting (and a giveaway!) resumes this evening.
Happy Sunday!

The Fashion Diet – part 1

This outfit is so perfect for today’s subject matter. Almost entirely Primark, bringing my Primark obsession into sharp relief.
Last night, the Mr and I decided to get serious on the saving front. We’ve been living in rented accommodation since our uni days and all those years of magnolia walls, pine laminated floors and electric hobs have taken their toll. We want our own house. With vintage papered walls, stripped wood flooring and a gas hob! Dreamy!
Buying a house is no laughing matter – there are a lot of serious faces, drab suits and documents written in Times New Roman to contend with. And then there’s the matter of money. I hate talking about money. Mainly because I’ve never saved a penny in my life and fritter away my cash on pretty dresses, gorgeous bags and new shoes. I have a hideous Primark habit that MUST be addressed immediately. So I’m taking drastic action…
I’m starting my Fashion Diet. My wardrobe is morbidly obese as it is, so it’s time to stop feeding and slim down. Just typing the words makes my heart race at the thought of all the things I’ll miss out on! But it must be done. I want to live in a great big house with my Mr and a dog (or two), paid for by us and decorated our way.
For the next two months (February and March), I’m not going to buy a single piece of fashion. Bags are banned. Shoes lose. Dresses are dumped. And to help me along the way, I’ll be selling off a few things from my big fat wardrobe on this blog. All proceeds will go to the House Fund. And I’ll keep you updated once a week with a post dedicated to the Fashion Diet and how it’s going.
So what do you think? Are you interested in my challenge? Can I do it?

This outfit really reminds me of wartime glamour – functional yet fashionable clothing that expressed the femininity of the women left behind, waiting for their husbands to return.
I really want to talk about trends today. There’s a little touch of trend in my outfit – workman’s boots, lilac shades, peachy tones – a barely-detected nod to spring’s hottest fashions. Only visible if you know what you’re looking for.
If I’m honest, I’m very slow when it comes to picking up trends. I find fashion magazines like Vogue really inaccessible (InStyle is about as in depth as I want to go) and I don’t keep up with the newest collections. I wait ’til trends filter down to the high street, then I buy the things I like. More often than not, it’s just a touch of this, a slice of that. I don’t think I could do head-to-toe trend if I tried!
What’s your approach to buying and wearing the latest trends? Are you a dedicated follower of fashion, with one eye trained on the catwalk and the other on netaporter? Or are you a bit indifferent, like me? I’d love to know.
PS – More new shoes (boots, really) here. I am more than impressed with these £35 boots from Chockers Shoes. And they came in a pink package – perfect!

I am in love. I’ve fallen, become infatuated, obsessed and dependent. I’ve never loved anything the way I love… these shoes!

Can you believe they were only £13? I’m so tempted to pop back to Primark for them in yellow, navy, black AND white!! I’d have a pair for practically every outfit.

I really wanted some red lipstick to finish off this outfit, but didn’t know what shade to choose for my blonde hair and pale skin. Any of you beauty boffins have a recommendation?

Do you have an item in your wardrobe you just can’t get enough of?
