Dressing Room Sneak Peeks

I think every girl dreams of having her own dressing room. And when I say ‘dressing room’ I don’t necessarily mean a perfectly-designed space filled with designer shoes and expensive candles – I mean an extra area to store all those pairs of heels you never wear, coats that are too bulky for your wardrobe and all that other useless faff that comes with being female (like 50 pairs of black tights or the platform trainers you’ve had since the Spice Girls days but can’t bear to throw away).

Since we moved into our house two years ago, the small box room off our bedroom has served as Rob’s office. But because he’s such an awesome person, it’s recently changed ownership and now has the exciting title of ‘Jen’s Dressing Room’.

So as Rob moved his desk and various items of Apple tech downstairs to the spare room, I moved in rails, drawers and Betsy, my new dressmakers’ dummy. Isn’t she beautiful?

It’s not quite finished yet – after a lot of two-ing and frow-ing back and forth to Ikea, we finally have the right size bookcase (note to self – measure space BEFORE lugging two huge, heavy boxes home and up a spiral staircase) so that’s got to go in, and I need to pack up my many, many pairs of shoes…

I’ll be back with another post when everything’s in place and all my storage solutions are working their magic, so enjoy these snippets for now.

I’ve spoken about the little project I did with evian a few times – there’s been lots of lovely stuff going on to celebrate their latest designer collaboration with the Queen of the Wrap Dress, Diane von Furstenberg, and I’ve been lucky enough to get involved. Well, I’ve had my fun and now it’s your turn – I have £200 of Selfridges vouchers care of evian to give away, plus one of these beautiful limited edition DVF bottles. You lucky things!

As it’s nearly V-Day and the DVF bottle has a distinct ‘love’ theme (so much so, I’m having 25 of them on the tables at my wedding!), I thought we’d all sit down and share the things we love. A love-in, if you will.

So, for your chance to win £200 Selfridges vouchers and one of these pretty bottles, you need to:

Right now I’m totally digging the two pairs of Orla Kiely specs I just bought… despite the £300+ price tag. Now that’s true love!

(Yes, I bought them. More on that soon.)

Everything you need to know is in that handy box just down there. The competition is open to all UK residents aged 16 and over and will close on 14th Feb – just in time for the big day!

Orla Kiely for Boots Opticians

orla kiely glasses

It’s rare that I write about product launches, so when you see one on these fabled pages (lol) you know I must be head-over-heels in love. Which I am. Irrevocably, to quote Bella Swan. With the new Orla Kiely for Boots Opticians range.

I’m very particular about my specs and rarely buy ‘fashion frames’, preferring to stick to simple classics. But when I laid my shortsighted eyes on this range, I came over all flustered. I’m a big fan of Orla Kiely’s trademark Stem print and it just works SO WELL on these frames.

The collection is a mix of classic colours, bright prints and quirky shapes. Every single pair could be worn day in, day out and still look fantastic in five years, which is what I go for when it comes to choosing my glasses. I tried my very hardest to pick a top three but literally could not whittle it down from seven. And I will make them mine.

The Orla Kiely range will be in Boots Opticians from tomorrow, priced at £189 per pair which I think is pretty reasonable for designer frames. You can see the full range, minus my Photoshop captions (a loss, I think you’ll agree), on the Boots Facebook page.

So, my fellow weak-eyed friends! What do you think? Which pair would you choose? And which pair should I choose?

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

… well, apart from the lions and bears.

(Sorry for the crazy wind hair and gappy fringe.)

When I was 8, all my sweaters were like this. Well, maybe not quite as monochrome OMGFASHION, but I’m pretty sure everything in my childhood wardrobe had an animal motif on the front. Because let’s face it – all clothes are better with tigers.

I bought this super-awesome-amazing tiger sweater from Zara on Friday and have worn it all weekend. I love it. Clearly, I’m a big fan of the shirt-under-jumper look (what do you mean, it’s so 2002? Shut up and let’s watch Cruel Intentions again).

Apologies for the general awfulness of these photos – taking outfit shots on a tripod when it’s windy is like a very expensive game of Chicken. Dare you hold your pose while the tripod shakes and your camera strap flaps violently? Will you risk £500 of equipment for one last looking-at-the-ground photo?  Luckily my Canon and I survived to pose another day.

Tell me your animal clothing stories – did anyone else own a t-shirt with a life-size My Little Pony print?

Jeans of the Week – In Glorious Technicolor

Posted in Daily Outfits, Fashion.

It’s my last ‘Jeans of the Week’ post, so I thought I’d go out on a high with a little colour injection…

Umm… ok. Not the most colourful of denims. I’m quite the fan of coloured jeans and have a rather extensive collection, but there’s something more refined and sophisticated about this muted jade green pair.

They’re by Joe’s Jeans, a brand I wasn’t familiar with but who seem to be doing a sterling job on colour representation with their ‘Fifty Five Colours’ range, which includes delightfully-named shades such as Chilli Pepper, Gingerbread and Lily Pad. The pair I’m wearing are ‘Gable’, FYI.

I’ve been working with Jeanography for my Jeans of the Week series, and I got to trial their ‘Fit First Time’ service which is launching soon. For every pair of jeans you purchase, Jeanography will send two other size and style options for you to try at home – the idea being, your perfect fit is among the three and once you find it, the other pairs go back to try their luck with someone else. Nifty! I am constantly baffled by the fluctuating sizing in denim, so it was great to have options… even better when I found the smallest size fit best. Take THAT, January diets.

So, Jeans of the Week comes to an end. I really hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some different denims – over the last four weeks I’ve worn straight legs, skinnies and flares and it’s been great to try a range of styles.

Let me know if you’ve been inspired to ditch your usual denims and give something new a go…
