My my, doesn’t it look lovely in here (I’m referring to the new layout, not myself. Although, I do think this dress is rather pretty)! My wonderful boyfriend and web designer/developer extraordinaire Rob designed and built Little Bird a fancy new home – something simple and clean for spring. I love it, and hope you do too.

The cardigan I’m wearing in this outfit sadly shrunk in the wash (hey Topshop – don’t put a ‘wash at 40 degrees’ label in your stuff if, you know, you can’t wash it at 40 degrees), so I returned it and now have a chunky knit-shaped hole in my 30 for 30 wardrobe. I’m not sure I can bend the rules again to sneak in a replacement, so I’ll solider on with just 29 pieces. Only nine outfits to go… can I do it?

When I was a little girl, I was walking down the street with my mum. Cars were queuing at the traffic lights as we walked, and when we came alongside a shiny red convertible (it was the early 90s, after all), I peeked in and saw a lady at the wheel. She wore a skirt suit, her highlighted hair fanned out over her shoulders. She had dark glasses on, and a briefcase sat next to her on the passenger seat. She had long, manicured nails painted pillarbox red that she drummed impatiently on the steering wheel, and her lips matched them perfectly.

I’ve held on to the image of that woman ever since. It’s still so vivid to me, I can conjure it in a second. And every time I put on lipstick (which admittedly, is not often) I’m reminded of her, so poised and professional.

Today’s look is far removed from hers – the epitome of 90s affluence and flamboyancy – but there’s something about a slick of lipstick that pulls everything else together.

I’m wearing Topshop’s Brighton Rock – what’s your lipstick of choice?

Rules of Proportion

I’ll be damned if I’m writing a post about ‘making proportion work for you’ (curvy ladies, emphasis a narrow waist with a cinched-in belt! Slender girls, add curves with ruffles! Seriously, why aren’t the glossies hammering down my door? I could write this stuff in my sleep) but I will say one thing – this sharp-shouldered blouse sure does make my hips look less child-bearing. And for that I’m thankful.

Do you have an item in your wardrobe that makes you feel seriously slinky?

Colour Blocking, Colour Popping

I have a long-time love affair with eye-wateringly bright colours. At Fashion Week it was wonderful to see the odd flash of canary yellow (like Poppy’s trench), splash of hot pink (like Laura’s clutch) or swipe of pillarbox red (like Gem’s lipstick), bobbing along in a sea of black, camel and tan.

If my 30 for 30 picks are anything to go by, however, I’ve swapped neons for nudes. So I did a little digging (my tights drawer is just out of CONTROL. Any tips for taming a denier jungle?!) and unearthed some traffic-stopping tights, which I paired with a contrasting cocktail ring (shame so many of the stones are missing, eh Mango?) and my peachy manicure.

Are you wearing bright colours this season, or is it still about the LBA (Little Black Anything) for you?

PS – I know, I know – this skirt needs heels. My outfits are suffering from 30 for 30 fatigue and a broken washing machine.

PPS – Have you entered my Shopbop giveaway yet? Go see!
