Sunday Smile #15

Posted in Second Hand Shopping.

Happy Sunday gang! Another week done and dusted, and it’s been an eventful one for me. On Friday I masqueraded as a ‘knowledgeable person’ at Cultural Conversations, run by the fantastic Emma of Culture Vultures and held at The Round Foundry. I went along to the first Cultural Conversations last month as an observer and had a fantastic time sharing my knowledge of social media with others. Word obviously spread about the quality, and whereas the first time we were chatting in small groups of about 6, this time there were 50+ people! Ahh!

I headed up two sessions – one on blogging and one on SEO – and helped out with one on Twitter. There were so many people in my blogging session that it had to be split in two! I shared my experiences and others did the same, which resulted in a very fine conversation on blogging, online content, tone of voice, HTML and more. Thank you to everyone who made that initially very daunting situation a thoroughly pleasurable one!

If you’re interested in social media and how it can help build your brand (whether you’re selling a product or yourself), or if you’d just like to meet lovely Leeds people, I’d recommend popping along to the next Cultural Conversations on 3rd September. Follow Culture Vultures on Twitter for all the updates and plenty of chat from the lovely Emma.

Right! On with it. I hauled my ass out of bed at 7am this morning and made it to my favourite car boot sale. It was quieter than usual (think the grey skies put people off) but I’m rather pleased with my pickings…

I’ve been looking for a crochet blanket for a while so was delighted to find this for £1! I’ve draped over the chair in the living room. The leather cowboy boots were £2 and just about fit… I can’t decide whether to keep or sell. What do you think?

The vintage suitcase is my favourite find of the day. When we finally move into a bigger house, I think I’ll have this in the bedroom, open and filled with vintage goodies. It was £1.50

These beautiful Chanel compacts were just £2 for the pair. The smaller is an eyeshadow and the larger a lip kit, complete with Chanel sponge. I don’t think I’ll be using the makeup inside but they look fabulous on my dresser! The cream jug was a 99p charity shop buy on Friday, the teacup is part of a set from the same charity shop and was £3 and the glass jug was a 50p car boot find a few weeks ago. The pink sweetheart roses I picked up this morning.

All in all, a very successful trip! Have you been booting today? Any bargains to share? What’s making you smile this Sunday?

As Inspired By… What I Wore

Posted in Daily Outfits.

This week I’m inspired by the wonderful Jessica of What I Wore. Actually, it’s not just this week’s style that Jessica inspires. What I Wore was the first fashion blog I discovered and it’s been a must-read ever since. I adore Jessica’s easy, breezy American style – she always looks utterly at home in her outfits and her NYC backdrop makes for fantastic photos.

Unfortunately, the courtyard of my flat isn’t quite so stunning, but it’ll have to do! By the way, I’m totally blaming Grace from Style on the Run for the rain in today’s shot, too. It’s not always nice weather here, Grace! You jinxed it!

Today’s outfit is based on this delicious ensemble

Thrifted skirt, blouse and bag, Primark cardigan, TK Maxx sandals, Zara Taylor vintage timepiece pendant

Are you completely blown away by the necklace? Yep, me too. The fantastically talented Zara Taylor very, very kindly sent me this vintage timepiece necklace along with my order (I adore her jewellery) and I cannot tell you how beautiful it is in real life. It works too – you can wind it up and marvel as the cogs turn and the hands tick. Gorgeous.

I love the simplicity of this outfit – the yellow of the skirt works so nicely with the crisp white blouse. I had to add the cardigan because hey, this is England and July is apparently more like October.

So, do we have any more fans of What I Wore in the house? Or are you taking inspiration from elsewhere today? Tell me all about it!

A Little (more) Lace

Topshop lace tee, Mango jeans, Primark white tee and pumps, Cherry and Joy ring, Links of London bracelets

I told you I’d be keeping it casual today – jeans and a white tee! Is there anything more simple than that? I think not. The lace tee was another sale buy (£25 down to £12, I think) and I’ve been wearing it loads. It goes with everything. A fine purchase!

On a more sentimental note, I’d just like to say thank you to every single person who takes the time to leave a comment on this blog. I don’t always get chance to visit your lovely blogs to return the favour but I’m ever so grateful that you’re here, interacting with me and sharing your views. I read my comments almost obsessively and often nod in agreement. The things you say get me thinking, make me smile and reassure me. So thank you, you lovely lot. You’re ace.

A Little Lace

Max C dress, Missguided waistcoat, Topshop pumps and ring, H&M belt

I really wanted to wear my new Zara boots with this outfit, but thought the pairing of florals, lace and cowboy stylings was probably a step too far. Sometimes it’s easier to just throw on things you know will work together, rather than trying to ‘push the boundaries’ all the time.

I know fashion is all about creativity, innovation and developing the ‘look’… but honestly, it’s exhausting. This week I think I’ll go back to basics with some of my much-loved classic pieces. Think stripes, florals, denim and leather.

Do you feel the pressure to look constantly cutting-edge? Ever feel guilty wearing jeans and a tee? Come on – whip off those harems, ditch the crop top and let’s kick back together. I dare ya!

Disclaimer – this does not mean you can wear your velour tracksuit in public or stop showering. We’re looking for comfortable, not crazy! 😉

Introducing Project Take 10

Posted in Daily Outfits.

A few weeks ago, I received a very exciting email from the lovely Sarah at We Shop Therefore We Are. She’d had an idea. And it was a good’un.

Have you heard of The Delightful Dozen? It’s a blog style project featuring some of my favourite fashion bloggers. Sarah thought it was high time there was a UK version, and asked me to take part. Naturally, I said yes!

Project Take 10 is a collective of 10 fashion bloggers from across the UK. All different shapes and sizes, we’ll each be styling an item donated to us by our lovely sponsors. The aim is to see how 10 individual girls with individual tastes wear the same item – hopefully with interesting, creative and oh-so stylish results! Here are my fellow Take 10 gals:

MJ from Dreaming Spires and Old Car Tyres
Sherin from HiFashion
Leia from Leia’s Delights
Vicki from Magpie Girl
Adele from Molto Curiosa
Saskia from Not Just Medical
Shini from Park and Cube
Sabine from Psynopsis
And of course, Sarah from We Shop Therefore We Are

How exciting! I cannot WAIT to get started with the first challenge… it’s a pretty tough one for me as the item is definitely not my usual fare, but that’s the whole point of this project. And maybe I’ll find a fab new look? Make sure you’re around on Monday 16th August to see how we all get on!

You can follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook for the latest news and updates. And if you’re a brand wanting to get involved with the Take 10 Project, you can email me.

So, lovely followers – what do you think? Are any of your favourite bloggers involved? And whose look can you just not wait to see? Let me know!
